Officers discuss fireworks show

I think it's great that there will be a 4th of July fireworks display, but I too am questioning the site. When the display was at the fairgrounds, it was centrally located and people could find places to park. The western edge is more residential than commercial so parking and traffic will probably be worse than years past. I hate to point out a potential problem without an alternative solution so I guess we'll just have to try this one year and see where the problems lie. If it works, fine. If not, the issue will need to be re-addressed for the next year.

Recount request filed for smoking ban question

Now someone needs to tell those nasty cattle ranchers to stop burning their pastures. Arrgh! Second hand pasture smoke. Help me, I'm dying! (A note for those of you who don't get it - this is sarcasm)

Two More Days

Answer to accerretti about why they are not included: It's real simple. The original ordinance was passed by the city commission and the ban issue applies to that ordinance. If it were originally a county ordinance, people living outside the city would have been able to vote on it. Simple boundaries. The city is not trying to exclude anyone, it is just a matter of where the ordinance originated from.

Group says it's pro-health, not anti-smoker

Finally, someone with some sense! Madpoet, I agree with you 100%. I also do not smoke and really don't care for it, but people have more of a discretionary choice about going into clubs. I applaud bars like "The Blind" that choose to be non-smoking, but if a club owner wants to allow smoking in his or her establishment, that is their business decision and should not be controlled by those that feel the need to protect us from our selves.

Hunters’ safety

Thumbs up to the Rattays for taking on a worthwhile endeavor. I too am a hunter and have had people slow down to scope out our goose decoys. You never know if they were just looking or if they were going to shoot and for some reason did not. I will take 4 signs when they are available!
