Create: "A well-placed hand on the rear end" I agree with this, however as a parent in this time and age, if I were to do this those standing in line with me at the Wal Mart might feel the urge to scold me for "spanking" and then turn you in to children's authority. Wal Mart would then provide survelience tape and the kids would be taken out of our home and placed with the county somewhere and we would have to spend a lot of money defending our actions. This is unfortunately how the world works because there are people who take a spanking "too far". Do not get me wrong, We do spank our children when the need arises. Usually, our children fall into line when we take privalages,(video games, TV, time with friends) away leaving spanking as our last resort. We will also make them do poop patrol in the back yard or even clean, scrub the big black trash can outside. We have a fairly clean trash can!!! The threat and then follow through of the latter two usually is enough to stop them in their tracks!!!

So seriously, if these parents are made to pay "child support" while these kids are in custody then so be it that every parent across this nation must pay "child support" while their child is in custody......and hey while we are at it why don't we make the families of every criminal in the "system", regardless of the criminal's age, pay support as long as they are in the system ! ! ! ! Everyone is quick to pass judgement on these parents, but does anyone actually know them. Maybe they are good parents ? ? Sometimes it is kind of hard to know where/what your kid is doing when you are sleeping. Do YOU ALWAYS KNOW WHERE YOUR KID IS? Ya know the thing about being a parent is that you do your best to teach the difference between right and wrong. Then you pray to God that they heard you all those years and that they do not get mixed up with kids that have a taste for breaking rules/laws ! ! !

Ohh, outsider.....you go.......you have hit the nail right on the head. I lived and worked there for 4 years and never in my life have I been so mistreated. Usually you do get back what you put out, but not in Emporia. Not born and raised Then you are dog doo on the bottom of their shoe. Do not bother wasting your breath on these yahoo's....they do not care and you will always be the bad guy because you are an "outsider". And for all those who say "just leave". We GLADLY did and now life is much bettter and we are back to being happy and having many friends from many walks of life. I have lived many places, Emporia has got to be the worst town I have ever lived in...............sooooo racist and ignorant. If they think that all their problems are because the "mexicans" legal or not have moved in. Guess what folks white people cause just as many problems and even more severe crimes!!!!

MrCmonkeedo: "Most smokers do not die from lung cancer."

NO most die from empyhsema or COPD (aka Chronic obstuctive lung disaease). The forementioned are secondary to smoking as well as second hand smoke, and exposure to many other chemicals, pollution, asbestos, etc......

As a former employee of Newman's I am happy to see that someone else feels that same way I did working there. Kudos emporian2008 you took the words right out of my mouth.

On Emporia's health-care community

Emporia has nothing to offer a young physician and his/her family. Businesses are closing left and right. The hospital although they want to become a "state of the art" facility it just will not happen. Most of the Doc's are not interested in updated treatment modalities. They are stuck. It is too small of a town be state of the art. Seriously, patients are transferred out becuase the Doc's think that they will be better taken care of else where. I've worked there. I know what goes on. I also know that issues are brought up time and time again and ya know what those issues are still a problem a year or so down the lane. I personally think that Dr. Barnett has most likely gone to who he needs to go to and they swept it under the carpet. COMMUNICATION IS KEY and NRH lacks that.

As a previous employee of Newman's, I have to agree with madpoet. There are some excellent staff, but over all it a lousy place. Many times doctors are unavailable and do not call back when paged. This is true for emergent and non-emergent care. When they finally do answer the page they are annoyed and are very rude to whoever it is that they speak to. At Newman's it is all about who you know. They definitey need new blood in the upper management positions. Attitude starts from the top and trickles down.

Emporiafan2....having worked at much bigger hospitals I have to say that the grass is greener $$$ on the other side. It is possible that if they left and came back that they just could not hack actually having to work for their money. I was appaled at some of the care and practices at Newman. Newmans was probably the worst experience I ever had and was glad to move on. It was embarassing to say where I worked because it was usually met with harsh remarks

Well said slipandslide. We are parents of a child that was bullied from K-3rd grade while attending UDS 253. Our child came home every day and talked to us. We tried several things to try to resolve this issue. We talked to the teacher, we talked with the principal, we talked with the parents, and the guidance counselor even got involved but to no avail. Our child was told not to talk to this other child and they wanted to take our child out of the classroom not the troublemaker. Fortunately, we moved out of state. The new school district has a NO Bullying policy. They just do not tolerate it and if there is a bullying incident it is addressed immediately. USD 253 open your eyes. This was caught THIS time, but what about next time!!!! My heart goes out to this family, because I have often wondered that if my child was pushed like this for a long time if I would find myself in a similar position. It saddens me to think that Justin MAY have felt that he possibly had no one to trust enough to talk to them about what he was feeling and if he did talk to some one shame on them for not helping enough to have prevented this.

Okay Flips, I understand not wanting them near a loved one. I am a health care professional and surely would not suggest direct patient care. What I would suggest for them would be exposure to these patients so they could see first hand how their selfish act has an effect on others. So maybe going every day for a determined amount of time and having to read to a patient that cannot read for themself or something of that nature or perhaps just observing physical therapists administering therapies for a determined amount of time. Just some kind of accountability...............todays youth seems to be all about themselves and most are not held accountable for their actions. Many blame others for what they have done. This is actually a societal problem not just associated with youth.

I agree with Kstrebuchet. Maybe even commnity service in a hospital that has pateints that are on life support and in comas or with a physical therapy unit that rehabs people that have been injured in accidents...............might open their eyes.
