Sorry Weltha, didn't realize you had posted that already. I'm in agreement with you and under_score though.

The same God that gives is the very same God that takes. You can believe what you want, but He's still in control.

This political mess just goes to show us that we cannot put faith in government and politicians. Faith in God's Word is truly the only answer.

"Dick didn’t like the Russians invading Georgia, why in hell didn’t they send bombers, missiles and troops in? Hell, they did it in Iraq!"

yeah, uh....we didn't invade Iraq because Russia was there.

I went to Iraq, and when we went door to door looking for bad guys, that didn't typically include weak people, women, old people, and kids. Generally they were military-aged males with enough mental capacity to decide that they wanted to be a part of a terrorist organization. So having been there and done that, I can say that this dude's opinion is basically erroneous.

I'm not sure what the bailout has to do with this article. It's about 18th and Industrial, not Wallstreet.

Priorities??? Tell me what the Emporia city engineering is going to do to fix the national economy??

This is the EMPORIA Gazette. They focus on Emporia matters. You've got your msnbc.com for your bailout woes.

I wouldn't put it past a 7th or 8th grader to figure out how to crack a pad lock on a locker. They've got easy access to that info on the web.

Your best bet is to make sure your child doesn't take expensive ipods and games to school. If it was an expensive graphing calculator or similar device, I can't imagine those being hot items to steal. I don't think you'll need a calculator like that for 7th and 8th grade math anyways. Not even for algebra.

If they can't go to school without the ipod, then have them keep it on person. They're all small enough to keep in a pocket. Same goes for most games.

Goodmorning-

I hate to be a knuckleheaded contrarian. I'll still shop mostly in Emporia just because I know that between gas and other expenses I'll probably still save money in E-town. I was already aware of that.

But not everyone thinks like that. Just like all the people that bought brand new 4 cylinder economy cars to replace their trucks and SUV's that they didn't owe money on. Well now they've got a car payment, big taxes for a brand-new vehicle, and they still have $4-a-gallon gas. They would've saved money by keeping that truck or SUV.

So with that in mind, I bet people will still drive to KC, Wichita, Topeka, etc to buy "cheaper" stuff.

"The city’s Sewer Fund is looking at a surplus for 2008 and 2009. The surplus is projected to be $442,825 in 2008 and $333,420 in 2009. The Water Fund, however, doesn’t look so good. That fund is facing a projected loss of $16,450 in 2008 and $660,830 in 2009. The city is proposing a 13-percent water rate increase to cover this fund’s losses."

So you mean to tell me that money can't roll over into another fund or anything?

If my math is right, the sewer fund is going to have a total surplus of $776,245 while the water fund is going have a total loss of $677,280. If they took the surplus from the sewer fund and placed into the water fund to cover losses, there's still $98,965 left over to demolish the clock tower.

But no, let's go ahead and hike our water bill another 13%.

Don't worry they'll get their furniture. But there's enough room in the cottonwood for that too.
