Electronic parking meters?
Quit wasting money...We don't need them... the old ones work just fine...if they break...put up an hour parking or 30 minute parking sign....they cost less and won't break....Get Real...The City Officials and Main Street Director need to know how to save money instead of emptying the bank and then make us pay...(of course, they will get a pay increase to pay for their extra tax bill)

Emporia to kick off bridal show season
My question is, Who will do the fashion show? We do not have a Bridal (wedding Dress) shop any more and It Would not be right to bring in an Out of Town Store if we are trying to promote Emporia.. That is kind of a No Brainer..For if an out of town Shop comes to do the fashion show, they will continue to shop out of town..Casey, open your eyes and face reality..it may hurt, but quit hiding..The issue of the Taxes came up last year during election and it was well known then, Life goes on, but easier when you face the mistakes and carry on! I agree, let the florist and others benifit the best they can.. P.S. Have Heard lots of good about Designs by Sharon taking over the Tuxedo's (which she already provided) but has done an outstanding job of stepping in and helping the Bride and Groom (I was just in a wedding they got the tuxes from her that were at Madelynns and she was awsome) Great Job, Sharon and Staff........

New products introduced to home- business sector
Looks like some of these "Home Based" are actually Retail..Does the city not have a Zoning about running Retail out of a Home without being Zoned. Huh, maybe this needs to be looked into .. City could be loosing more revenue
If products are sold in the home and sold from their doorstep?
If anybody knows the ruling on this, please apply.

Christie project gets city approval
Great Job Commisioners...Now we can loose more businesses and jobs in Emporia, Why can't we try to keep what we have and add to it..Why do you always have to ruin businesses to make one... There goes 20 businesses by 2010..... The bright side is that the "Emporia Gazette" won't be able to do their business slam "Best of the Flinthills" for there will be only one left of each business since the Commisioners and Gazette will see to that.... (In my opinion, every business in the flinthills are "The Best" not just the ones that Mommy and Daddy left you..There are many businesses that were started by the owners 10-15 years ago...

Smoking ban passes
people don't want to go to the blind for they are only a 3.2 bar and close at midnight.. nice try.. I really was hoping that the city commisioners would work harder on this issue instead of jumping in the boat.. I can not even vote on this issue for I do not live in the city.. I have never understood why the city chooses all these laws and the county has no say about anything but, I would think the fair way to take care of this matter would be: If you are a bar that serves food, and as long as you are serving food, your bar should be Non_Smoking, If you are only a Bar with no food served, then you should have the choice of smokin or Not.. This way family could have the right to go to non-smoking and besides, you don't need to take minors into a bar anyway.. Thanks, commisioners for ruining more businesses in Emporia, KS . I don't smoke but do go to bars to be with friends and have fun. Get a life..or stay home. For the commisioners that voted for it...Maybe we will shop else where now!!

Not a good deal
I too agree with Ms Symmonds, If they want here so bad, they can pay their own way. No body pays my way or even the ones mentioned... I think one question that always should be asked when any business or industry is trying to come into Emporia is, What other businesses are going to benifit from them.. How many local businesses, contractors, wholesalers are going to be used? I can give you that answer, "NONE". they will bring in all their own builders, use their own materials, electricians, plumbers, contractors, and not give any of our local business owners a chance... Look at the courthouse.. very few Local People were used.. I think that should be a Very Important Part of any deal... You expect your local people to support you.. then you should be supporting the local people. That is not fair to bring in contractors, etc. from out-of-town... Everybody should benefit. Come on Commissioners, and Emporia, Wake UP!! Lowe's could put us in a situation we are sure not ready for.

Developers, neighbors disagree on zoning proposal
Why do we need a store like lowes? Why do we continue to try to hurt all the other businesses in Emporia? We already have an efficient number of choices for hardware type stores...what Emporia needs is a Target or something that we can choose instead of just Walmart... those are the people Emporia are loosing out of town and then when they are already shopping out of town, they get the idea to go ahead and shop for more to make their trip worth while... Also, I am wondering if the Development Company paid to have this meeting at the Vo-Tec or if our tax dollars paid for it too>>. And if we did pay for it...why did we not use the auditorium or a room at our courthouse??? We need Kent Heermann to do his job he is paid for...we continue to pay people to come tell us what to do and He is the One who is paid by us to find the Developement and get Emporia Going... We need industries in Emporia for Jobs, We don't need more statues of Dreams that take our money and then GO Running out of Town Laughing!!

Public-comment budget session gets few participants
Peyton, I don't thinking we are on a witch hunt.. I know I am and hope all the other people are all hard working people who pay their taxes and support there wonderful city of Emporia, but we are getting feed up with the city, county officials wanting more and more and we get less and less...I would suggest that if the tax warrant is an error not only for Madelynns but all the others that are on this web-site. to be after them like a egg frying on a 190% sidewalk... The web-site tells us that it is up to date, and only is removed when paid, I believe I would start with the removal before anything...the same with the others...we brought it to your attention...and you mentioned you did not know it exsists, which I believe you..It was never intended to hurt any business that is being an honest operating business... we just are all trying to get a hold of money that has been put into the wrong hands and not honestly forwarded to our City/County. The Sales Tax has caused an uproar in Emporia and Sorry you got taken into the Lions Mouth....
