rcakmon: I can assure you there are no long lunches at EMS or EHS either. Exactly one hour is allowed for lunch on in-service days.

greenday: Come on! Teachers do NOT smoke "dooby" before school! Teachers are professional adults and professional adults don't do things that college kids do.

I completely agree with what Mrs. Wilhite had to say and I'm glad she was brave enough to speak out for teachers.

Mr. Walker, I also dare you to follow ANY teacher around for a week solid to see what their life is like. Good luck not dropping from sheer exhaustion at the end of that week.

Yeah, I wasn't making fun of Mr. most wanted, I was just pointing out that he looks a little bit like Obama.

Create . . . perhaps you retired from teaching too early and need another task to keep you busy? :)

I agree with you bellabrooke! Usually comments are full of negativity and it doesn't hurt anything to lighten this up sometimes. Did you know humor is a sign of intelligence? :)

Excellent idea!

Place kids who bully with kids who get bullied by them . . . and give the bullies more dirt on the kids they already pick on as is. Not an excellent idea at all.

I know for a fact that school staff picked 100 kids who range from known bullies, to kids who get bullied, to smart, well to do, popular white kids, to kids in gangs, etc. You can bet that if your child got an "invite" that someone believes they fall into one of the categories listed above.

Now, lets throw all those kids (some possibly being in rival gangs) into a room for 8 hours, tell them to tell their secrets, and then see what happens!

Not a good idea ...

On Challenge Day

Equalrights:

I believe in teaching about respect and violence and such too.

However, this is not what challenge day is.

Imagine being 12 or 13 years old and being highly encouraged to tell a room full of 100 strangers your deepest and darkest secrets. Lets say you do it ... you are in the moment and you tell a room full or a group full of people you don't know you can trust, your secrets. Would you trust a group of 12 and 13 year olds to keep your secrets and not tell others or not use them against you if they got mad? I sure would not!!

Challenge day is grounds for mass amounts of further "rumors" and sharing information with people that may or may not, do bad things with what they find out that day.

I would NOT let my child participate in this.

It has the possibility to be good and it also has the possibility to do some serious emotional damage to very young people.

Five words:

Parents have ALL the power!

Don't like something that is going on? Gather a group of parents with similar thoughts and challenge the principal. If you don't get anywhere, go above the principal. Don't stop until you see a change!

Get going!!!

Will you tell us what school are you refering to? I can only guess the 6th grade building or the 7th & 8th grade building?

Create - I like that website! Neat idea paying teachers what they are actually worth. You can bet there will be NO teacher shortage in that school in New York!
