This is great news----not only for 2009 graduates and beyond, but for those who graduated in 2008 and took advantage of the voucher for the Fall 2008/Spring 2009 semesters! What a wonderful way to use the money that was set aside to help the students in these counties. Investing in these student's futures is always a win-win situation!

Congratulations to Kenneth Bronson on another fine football season! To have a quarterback who can throw the ball well and run the ball well is a great asset to any team. Rossville is a good football team and they did a good job of preparing for the NHS passing game. Congratulations to the NHS wildcats on a great season.

It is too bad this team waited until the last regular-season game to do some passing. Changing it up between the run game and the passing game is what works for most football teams.

Has anyone thought about the chance that Interstate Brands and Tyson may totally pull out of this town for good? How many people will be left to shop at Lowe's then? The TIF will be left for the rest of us to deal with. I enjoy shopping at Lowe's and would like to have one closer but at what expense? The City Commission needs to look into the existing businesses we have in town to see how long they will stick around if Tyson and Interstate Brands move out. Just another thing to think about while trying to decide Lowe's fate.

On a lighter note about the smoking ban..........how about banning heavy perfume/cologne wearers or those individuals who don't shower/bathe and have bad BO? How about those individuals who pass gas in public places? Just a little something else to think about when going out. If it is a privately owned establishment and they pay their taxes, their freedom in choosing smoking/non-smoking should be up to them---anyone can chose whether or not to go to these places. It is ultimately up to the individual.

In your article it said at the end that you turned west from Smileyberg(a place of wonderful, helpful people) and headed to Douglass. You need to head back to Douglass the weekend of October 10th-12th. A very large celebration will be taking place that weekend to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the DHS Bulldogs State Football Championship! The coaches and team members will be honored at the DHS football game and at activites planned all weekend. Not many towns will pull out all the stops for a reunion like this one, but not all teams can win a state championship with an undefeated record! Check with Douglass High School for more information. Flyover Douglass--you will be glad you did!

It is about time this man was recognized for his outstanding achievements in the field of strength and conditioning!! He has had a great impact on many students and student athletes at Emporia High School and ESU. He has taught the youth how to lift and condition the CORRECT way by teaching proven techniques year after year. Just look at his track program at EHS----year after year of outstanding performances by the student athletes he trains. Not only does he train his sports teams, he is involved in training athletes from all sports teams at EHS. It is just a shame he isn't teaching a full load of strength and conditioning classes at EHS. He should be available to educate all students and student athletes who want the proper and most up-to-date techniques for their individual sports. KUDOS to Randy Wells for putting forth that "extra-effort" to become one of the top educators in his field!!

Please, before you write an article that will definitely stir up a lot of people in this community, meet with the school district people and find out what collaboration time entails for the teachers in USD 253. They don't just meet with teachers from their own school, they meet with educators from other schools in the district. The amount of paperwork they have to do is unbelieveable. If you haven't been reading the major newpapers, there is a teacher shortage out there. Could it have to do with all of the extra paperwork and preparation for the new guidelines? I'm sure that is a big reason why. Let us commend those brave and committed individuals who work hard for our children on a daily basis. As a parent, they have my respect and support!

Gazette Sports staff--
Is there a reason you did not do an 11-Man All-Area team and a separate 8-Man All-Area team this year? For the last few years, there have been two separate All-Area teams. With such a wide range of talent and such a large area to cover, this may be something you may want to do again in the future.
