Bike Police Are Not Patrolling the City
Maybe the rocks or new ball fields will fill in on the bikes until they can get some officers hired.

About Town
I gotta tell ya, I am missing me some Las Casitas tacos. I think they did the catering out at a Veteran's Golf Tournament there at the golf course, and man alive those were the BEST taco's I've EVER, EVER, EVER had.

Clarifications from Extension Office
With all this mill levy talk, I'm just glad that I live in JOCO. Do you Emporian's enjoy paying 160 or so mills? Hope you enjoy paying 165 or so mills if this thing is approved or goes forward.
Extract of my tax bill with description and number of mills.

REG still interested in Emporia plant
I guess the big shots over in the NW part of town got tired of driving 50+ miles to the nearest lowes, so they decided to try and bring one here? Don't they know they have several great hardware/lumber stores here in town? Sutherlands, Mark II, Bluestem, Ace Hardware...I'm sure there are others.

Possible grant opens way for new ball fields
Remember all the money the water park was supposed to bring in when they sold it to us?
Uh, show me the money.

Possible grant opens way for new ball fields
Why is everything being done in this city being done on the Northwest side of town?
Why don't we put resources towards rehabilitating the parks and ball fields in the inner core?!
I remember as a kid spending hours upon hours at the ball fields at Jones Park, Woodland Park on 9th Ave (now a big hole in the ground), and the fields across the interstate from the University.
Coming back into town to visit family, we drive those places. There's nothing; yet there are still homes and kids playing outside...I'm sure there's a need; but does anyone really live on the Northwest corner of town that isn't on the City or County Commission, Rec Board, Extension Office, etc?

Forty Ful-"Filling" Years
I will have to say that Dr. Ace is the best Dentist I have ever seen or known. A great person, and an even bigger fan of the community.

Criminal Offenses increased in 2011
Oh. So you have to subscribe to get the whole story? That makes sense.

Criminal Offenses increased in 2011
“We just literally don’t have enough people to do follow-up investigations,” Emporia Police Chief Gary Smith said.
Hmmm...I wonder how many officers (two) could have been afforded by that money we used for those rocks? ($100,000 divided by $50,000 salary and benefits).
"The police have only three general investigators, and they each have a case load of about 300 to 500 cases."
Hmmm...or, how about investing $100,000 in a full time investigator, and give him the tools to do his job...or are the rocks doing that now?
Sorry Emporia. Your rocks aren't all they were cut up to be. Pun intended.

Poor Farm
Agreed. This is the type of article that the Emporia Gazette is going to succeed with. The national AP news isn't worth what they pay for it; it's old old news in today's world.
