I would like to start by thanking all of you who have responded to this story, both good and bad. What makes us great as a society are our differing views. When my family decided to try and bring this level of entertainment to Emporia we discussed it with several people around town. Almost everyone we talked to said this: "Those types of events just don't come to Emporia". I am tired of hearing that this is a suitcase college town. Titan Entertainment is a great production company that produces fights for ESPN. The opportunity to have them here is a great chance. Joe and I have discussed several events a year here in town if we can make this work. I want bigger venues to go to as a resident. I want to make this a place where younger Emporians will want to stay. I want to have options other than an hour road trip to some other town. "Shop Emporia first" we all hear it on the radio and in publications around town. Let’s find those events that make us want to stay here and BUY! Just because something is different does not necessarily mean that it is not good.

(JD) Thank you for your advise. We offer a smoke free front room. The main bar is still a smoking room. we do have an excellent ventilation system in place that draws almost all of the smoke from the room even on our busiest nights. There is a great demand for a meeting place in downtown Emporia that can offer food service and entertainment capabilities. We continue to see a healthy interest in booking our establishment for a variety of events. I do not feel as if I will be competing with J's. They have an excellent burger, however they are very limited on space. I have atmosphere, people will come for the great food , but will stay to enjoy good music, a cold beer and the latest sporting event on our 4 flat screen T.V s. Likewise Centenilla and La Hacienda may both offer a Margarita special, however we have a huge dance floor and dancing music all night long afterwards. Something they are not able to do. We can offer great food during the day and succeed. We will do so, and offer a great nightlife as well. Thanks for the input again, it shows at least one person is taking an interest.

On Restaurant is changing hands

I am the new manager of Wheat State Grille. My wife and I are running it on a daily basis. We have just begun this endeavor and welcome input from anyone in the community that has advice or suggestions. We will be buying the Grille in July and changing it's name. We hope to see you down there. It is very hard to have a nice establishment in town without everyones support. Smaller Mom and Pop type places like ours find it very hard to compete with the much larger budgets and capabilities of our corporate competition. However we offer a eunique experience and the chance ,to talk to an owner if you have a problem not a coporate website or a manager that will "pass on your concern". If you are not happy, we cannot succeed. Thank's in advance for the chance to serve you better. Stephen and Tamara Cole

On Iowa Chain wants into Emporia

Save the fairgrounds. Because of a few closeminded people we stopped some great economic expansion, now with 1500 less paid employees in this town, facing an exodus of up to 4000 people leaving do you think we will be able to attract those corporations now?

Everything was great. The service was a little slow but it was worth the wait.

I am sorry for the people who will be out of work in the next few weeks. I am scared of the reprecussions of this firing as it rolls through the community. We need to be strong as a community and help those in need.
