Pit bulls only as dangerous as their owners, ASPCA tells city
A dog is a dog. Treat it well and don't frighten it into submission and it will respect the hell out of you. For those of you saying the dog is "evil" because its a large dog, please get an education your ignorance is showing. I used to have a German Shepherd/Timber wolf mix named Fritz. One of the best dogs I have ever owned or seen. He was playful, happy, obedient and funny as hell. One day some ignorant fool much like some of the posters here, hit him in the face with a brick. Why? He scared them. He was over 20 feet from schmuck, but the dog scared him. If people started treating dogs the way they treat their electronics you'd see the animal attack statistics drop into the negatives!
Another story. Guy down the street from me has to small labs he keeps in an apartment building. He let them out one day as I was walking to work. They went right after me and stopped just a few feet away growling like crazy. Whats the guy say as he's looking on? "Just kick them off, they run home." I told him to come get them or I'd kick him until he was in his house, with his dogs, and the police on the way. If you find a person that has dangerous dogs running loose, attacking unprovoked (human or animal), its because the owners share the same mindphrame as our city politicians: THEY LACK COMMON SENSE!!!

Kansas Law Allows People Under 21 to drink
St. Teresa strikes again. Think many of us would love to look her right in the eye and shout a resounding "Shut up!" to her, unfortunately she knows what's best right? I keep reading these tear jerker stories about this drunk driver, or this minor that was intoxicated, but the TRUTH is its bull. I can state dozens if not hundreds of stories where people drank beer and what do you think happened? Nothing, laughs, card games, maybe some coyote ugly moments the next day, but no deaths, no fights, no driving drunk, just general good times.
If you allow minors to drink, even if its just 3.2, they learn how to control it. Most of us drank before hitting 21, the majority went through it with no notice, no lawsuits, and no bitching. Walters for once in her uppity little overprotective life can just shut the hell up!

Annual Seasonal Celebration returns to White Auditorium
Why do people really care? Shakespere once said, "What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.." You know what it is and what it represents. It's not like anyone is forcing you in your home to say happy holidays right? Just enjoy the time, hear some great music, and show kids its not all scrooge and humbugs!

School cuts shortchange kids
The problem with the school systems is not financial. Yes it plays a part but its not the problem. The problem is attitude and accountability. I had to go to the middle school the other day and the students were doing their gym class. Instead of participating I saw several just playing with cell phones. This article said kids today are media connected. To me that means stupid in terms of common sense. Take their phones away as soon as they are seen in school. Give them paper, a pencil and make them take notes. Actually discipline kids today and you'll see test scores jump to the moon. Get back some of the elective classes that are NECESSARY for after school. Such as automechanics, shop class, etc. Just my opinion but higher test scores equals more money.

Annual Seasonal Celebration returns to White Auditorium
everytime some yokel goes on a soap box and screams bloody murder about the "celebration" not having christmas in it you just feed the flames. what the hell does it matter what its called as long as it happens? This is a bunch of kids performing for YOU, not a sunday sermon. Either go and enjoy the show or knock off with the name debate. you notice the name keeps changing but the DATE never does? take comfort in that and let the name debate fade away quietly.

Teen rethinking apology letter to Brownback
So if I were to write Governor Sam Brownback sucks, not that I know Governor Sam Brownback sucks, but its just my opinion that Governor Sam Brownback sucks, would Governor Sam Brownback try to force me to appologize for say Governor Sam Brownback sucks? Just curious. In my opinion Governor Sam Brownback does not suck....That would be giving him too much credit. Therefore Governor Sam Brownback inhales violently!

Setting the record straight
It's just the RDA trying to assure us that their existence is meaningful and the city "leaders" wanting us to believe they "know what's best" for us again. lol Sorry Methulsa, I stole your quotations. lol

Setting the record straight
How about a basis of fact: You can't support a population on fast food and retail. Bring in some jobs that hire on a mass scale so the city can continue to bullsh*t us with some credibility.

Fire Prevention and Landlords
This is just a measure to tide people over until they forget it happened. We lived in a quadplex on mechanic street that was upstairs, had only one way in or out, no heater or ac, only a window unit that worked for a half hour at a time. The stairwell was the old metal scaffolding that was horrible when the freezing rain started. It was infested with bugs, no smoke detectors, wasn't winterized. We took a trip to Omaha to visit family and came back to water filling the street from busted pipes. The water heater in the basement was actually floating around. The Emporia fire department took the meters and condemned the house. When we reported it before to the city and gave the landlords name it was obvious that this landlord had been reported many many times, and yet nothing had been done. So I stand by the opinion that nothing will be done about this, or any other slumlord in Emporia. People will continue to get inadequate housing, people will continue to get hurt, and slumlords will continue to reap the benefit. This article is joke when you know this will continue on and on until more people are killed.
