If Tyson isnt getting any incitives for hiring refugees then is Tyson trying to create a surplus labor pool so they can lower their starting wages in the future? The Tyson plant in Emporia might not be here forever so why cater to them? At some time the Emporia Tyson plant will become outdated and it will be cheaper to build a new plant than to update this one. The thing that upsets me the most that there are enough problems with the population of America already. When there is not a single American that is homeless, jobless, or uninsured then lets open the doors for immigration and refugee resettelment. I am tired of being a stepping stone for the government and big business. I spent over 2 years in Iraq to make this country a safer place, then come home to have the government slap me in the face. All fellow veterans I have talked to feel the same way. We have veterans coming home to find out they do not have a job to return to. Shouldnt we take care of the ones who protect us? What will happen when service men and women say enough is enough? How long untill this happens? This is supposed to be a democratic nation! Why dont I have a say in what can and cant take place in my town?

Good point. Emporia and its citizens need to know all the facts. Not just Norfolf but ever town comparable to Emporias size that has faced a large number of refugees being relocated needs to be researched and addressed.

If Norfolk had to open up free programs, offer a building for prayer, who paid for all of it? I woulnt rent a building for free for no amount of time, and the clinics may have been free for patients, but Im sure the clinics needed money for supplies and operating cost. So my question again who paid for it all? The tax payers? Grant money has to come from some where. Doesnt our taxes go to grants to? Isnt their enough low income families and single mothers that could use such programs? Shouldnt we take care of our own first? Shouldnt we use grant money to start a free child care center so low income families and single mothers can find a job or go back to school? How about the homeless and disabled veterans shouldnt we take care of them? What happens if Tyson does shut down? Norfolk had an increase of crime, do we really want any more crime in our town? If we cant solve our own problems why do we try to solve the problems of the world?

To joke with your friends in private is one thing. To post such a picture crosses the line. You say you did that in good humor, I believe you did. This goes for everyone on the forum, think hard before you post on here. We dont need to be labeled as radicals. Everyone makes mistakes. Kstrebuchet I do beleive your sorry, and I accept. Sooner or later something like this would have happend. We all need to be aware of what we do and say, and how it can be looked at as a negative action. Lets just try to stay politicaly correct. Remember even if we dont intend on something being racist it can be looked at as being so. Lets not be so quick to judge either.

Momus good points. We need to get to the bottom of this. We need to bring the government in on this and the media. Remember we need to stick together on this issue and be on the same page. If someone wants to talk to you in private about the issue bring extra friends. The feds dont want the publicity, especially when its a bunch of upset citizens that put them in office. Other towns have shut their doors to refugees. If they can do it so can we. I think our best ways to attack this issue is sticking to the impacts that this will have on our taxes, public school system, social services, and health issues that may surface. Many people will call us names, be prepared for it. We need to hold those accountable and let them know we wont tolerate it. Lets keep working together.

Who gets the power? If they build a coal plant in Kansas is the power going to stay in state or go across our borders? I dont like the idea of using coal for power generation. Looks for a good way for big business to say we're having a coal shortage and raise our rates higher than they are already. I like the idea of wind power. I've seen many giant wind generators in Iowa. When the wind doesnt blow for a period of time I can see a blackout happening. Maybe we should try to have both types built that way when we dont have wind we could run off coal. What would be wrong with another nuclear power plant? We alread live close to one anyway.
On Why in Kansas?
