I live a few houses down from the church and to know this was done in my neighborhood irritates me so bad!
What would possess someone to be so foolish?

I get very vigilant at night, watching unusual traffic because we have had a few incidents around here before....looks like I will be playing nosey neighbor for awhile because more than likely the little troublemakers will come back around.

ok, so no fireworks done in town by individuals...plus no city display? Emporia has really become a place to hate to live. We celebrate our independence in this town by having our freedom to celebrate taken away. WOW way to go. I am not a fan of the big popping fireworks either but it's awful that my children are not allowed to do their sparklers or fountains in the front yard, with the hose nearby just in case something bad happened. I understand all the points of view on here, there are parents who are responsible on the holiday, the ones who make sure their children are being safe and using fireworks properly and there are parents who are too busy tipping the beer can to notice that little Jr. is lighting a firework dangerously close to a can of flammable liquid, or aiming the roman candle at his siblings head.
I still say there should have been talk about giving an option to buy a one day permission pass for fireworks in town offered at a reasonable price. There would be alot of details to work out, but it's something to look into.

I am please with JAC, my family doesn't live on the westside of town and I have to drive back & forth quite a bit but I think it's well worth it. I think the price for a family of 5 on a regular day is kind of high so we solve the problem by going during family swim on Friday evenings. I have 3 kids that go about 2 or 3 times a month when they tire of swimming in our pool, I send them with a 20 and they are good for 5 or 6 hours.
The old pool was always so crowded and I never had much fun.

My aunt was in Walmart*it was where Sutherlands is now, for those who didn't know* when the tornado hit in 1974. I was needing to go to Sutherlands today but I changed my mind!

I pray that the predictions for today's weather are not accurate, but in this house we are praying for the best and preparing for the worst.

I agree, the grafitti is ridiculous. Someone actually climbed onto the Senior Center building just to tag the sign!

I lived across the street from a house a few years ago that was for sale, I knew the owner lived out of town at the time and had no family here, so when her got a mowing order on the yard I decided to mow it for him.
Kindness seems to elude some people if they would rather waste energy complaining about the yard instead of being neighborly*spelling?* and helping out.

I have had people get mad at me repeatedly because I won't answer a text message "just because I'm driving". I think it is ridiculous to expect me to put myself or others in danger just because they want a fast response.
If it is urgent (one of my kids) then I will pull over and respond.
If you are driving and texting then your eyes are not on the road, plain and simple.

Illegal immigrants. That is all anyone has said...but I guess some of you will twist that to make it what you want to believe they mean.

Why do so many people who seem to dislike The Emporia Gazette read it so much anyways? Hmm? So he made a mistake, he corrected it! Maybe some of the people on here who are constantly complaining about anything/everything the staff does....should read a different paper and get a new hobby.
