We need this ban. Whenever I go out on the town to get drunk and eat buckets of fried stuff, I notice my stretchy-waist pants smell all yucky from smoke. That just can't be healthy.

Well, then ... I may have to reconsider my plans to travel with utter abandon ...

Two questions:
1 - Who let them loose?
2 - Are they in jail?
Okay. Three questions ....
3 - Why not?

Okay, then.
Thanks for clearing that up.
You're "All State" in my book, batbatly!

Concerned? Not really.
Curious? Yeah, sort of.
Anybody else out there? Is there an "All State" in XC?

Considered "All State" by whom?
I just couldn't find anything that referenced any "All State" for XC.
Is it a KSHSAA thing? KCCTFCA? A newspaper?
Or just dads who coach?

"All State"?
I'm kind of a newbie, but I've never heard of All State in XC. You run at the state meet, and if you win you are the state champion and if you finish in the top 20 you get a medal. I've never heard it referred to as "All State". I can't see it referred to in that manner anywhere else, such as on the state meet host site or the cross country / track & field coaches web site, so I'm just curious.
I'm not saying Coach Stanbrough made it up, so it would sound better --- "All State" vs. "finished 11th" --- but .... well, you know, I am kind of thinking that's what it looks like.
Anybody out there know about this?
PS- Great race by Jenna, whether it's "All State" or not. 16:26 on that Rim Rock course is pretty salty.

Cross-Country: Burlington, an area school, also was there. Nate Reznick (JR) finished 29th in 3A boys with a fine run [time 18:18.82]. Rhian Jones (FR) took 69th in 3A girls [time 18:28.76, well off her regional pace] to lead the Lady Cats, who had a tough day on the hills, taking 12th as a team. Also running for the Lady Cats, who were Tri-Valley League champions this year, were Chelsea Poplin (SR), Crystal Hinterweger (SR), Becca Dunlop (JR), Heather Eddings (JR), and Kristin Thweatt (SO). Good season, ladies!
*** Katelyn ran with remarkable determination, and it was a thrilling win to see. She was in control from gun to tape, and was never really pushed, but you'd have thought a bear was chasing her from the pace she kept up. Fantastic kid, really good runner.
*** Julie Dorneker, who is from Cottonwood Falls but runs for Flinthills during the season (I think that's right), ran a strong first half of the race, running in 4th or 5th place and within sight and catch-up distance of Katelyn; however, she was unable to finish the race. I was hoping to learn something about that in the Gazette, but don't see anything yet. The Prepzone message board says she fainted on the back part of the course, and had to be carted in, but that is not confirmed. Perhaps the Gazette's crack sports staff could give the coach down at Rosalia a ring and find out the story on this fine young lady from Gazetteland ... after all, she beat Katelyn in nearly every race this year, and everyone was expecting a real battle between them at the finish (Julie is noted for her strong kick in the last half mile). The Chase County star not being there at the finish is a story ... to some of us, anyway.

What can I say? The BHS coach is an Olpe native ...

Well, of course, I was being sarcastic. I don't smoke, and it's not my favorite thing to be around, but to ban smoking in a bar for health reasons is absurd, just a bit. I know, I know ... should others have to choose to endure it or to not frequent the businesses that allow smoking? Actually, yes. It's America. If a place allows smoking and you don't like it, tell them so and leave. If they value your business, maybe they'll change their policy; maybe they won't. Either way, it's free people making their own decisions without the need for a Big Momma government doing so. I think within a few years you would be hard pressed to find a place that will allow smoking indoors, with or without a law, and the places that do so will take the good and the bad that may come with it.
Now then, don't get me started on fecal hygiene ... Uncle Sam, come wipe my bot!
