At least you can still buy the Wichita paper in newspaper racks about town, and you won't have to read Jason Whitlock!

I think about75% of the products I look at are "made in China." Unless I can't find an American-made item, I won't buy these foreign items--not only are they cheaply-made and sometimes dangerous, I'd rather keep my business at home. Shop America!

Let's show the thugs who did this that Emporia CARES about its zoo. We can all help by writing a check for the replacement, the security system (which I'm told is pricey), and/or a reward fund. When the jerk(s) are caught and convicted, throw the book at them, and then some. Life is tough enough without having to deal with small-minded, evil people.

I'm sad and angry that anyone could display such disregard for life. I can't bring the birds back, but I can send a contribution to help pay for the cost of a security system. Please join me!

Readers should understand that a Level 10 felony is the LEAST SERIOUS felony. While many have called for more than a "slap on the wrist" for this unconscionable act of killing the innocent, I will not be surprised that if convicted these children's punishment will be nowhere close to "throw the book at them" or "lock 'em up for life." In fact, I'll be stunned if they serve any time at all upon conviction. That being said, I would go for totaling up the entire cost of this sad affair--the replacement costs of the birds (including shipping and health checks), replacement of the destroyed pots, cost to keep them in the detention center, costs of their attorneys, etc., and if it comes down to scooping poop at a minimum wage rate, so be it. They took something beautiful from our community; let them give that value back to our community.
