Enforcing the law
Maybe the parents will pay the tickets and maybe they won't. They were warned so they have no one to blame but themselves. Teens aren't stupid, the've been in seatbelts from the time they were born, and know its the law. So they get a ticket...Wah! I personally believe the fine should go up each time a person is ticketed.
imarun_r2...if you had your seatbelt on then fight the ticket.

Sound Off - Repeal in-state tuition for illegal immigrants?
Whats the use of becoming legal if everything is given to them while they are still illegal?
If your not here legally then go HOME!

Supporting the monuments
To me the issue isn't the putting up of stones, but what is being used to fund it. Our tax dollars, that means we should have a say.
Answer me this Steve Sauder...did anyone even try to fund this with donations and try and get a matching grant?
I don't get the emporia gazette, I can't afford it. The radio in my vehicle is broken and I can't afford to fix it...and now you want to pile on more with an unnecessary bill for rocks. Yes, I'm against it.
I moved to Emporia When I was 17, I married my husband here when I was 19, I lost my husband of 30 years here and buried him here...so yes I live in Emporia and am an Emporian!

Listen to concerns
I tell you what the day they pay a consultant 275 grand and start charging me for rain that falls on my property is the time I kick the dust of Emporia off of my shoes and move!
Now is not the time to spend the money on stones for the entrances...especially from TAX dollars. Have you tried to raise private funds and then get matching grants?
The solution always seems to be...RAISE TAXES! Do you not have any brain power at all to try and come up with some other ways? Have you tried to ask the Emporia Community their ideas? What may not seem to alot of money to you is more then alot of us make in a couple or more years and adding to our burden makes it even harder.

Big Rocks...thats just what draws me to stop in a town when I'm on a trip...that and the worlds biggest ball of twine!
Glad to know our city is in such great shape that we can afford to spend on such an extravagance!

City will not cut services in 2011
I say we cut by getting rid of the commissioners!
In down times you have to work with what you have not charge, charge, charge!
Buck up baby!
