"This outlandish claim that Emporia started a new holiday to honor veterans and is somehow more patriotic than other cities in America is bogus."

Especially considering how Emporia celebrated St. Patrick's Day, Cinco De Mayo, Mexican Independence Day, and not the 4th of July or Veteran's Day.

Crackinsack,

For God sakes, just go away. You have ceased making any intelligent conversation, you put down people who write articles in, you seem to be here for no other reason than to cause a stir (which is your right under the 1st amendment, but just because you can doesn't mean you should). I really wish you would find something better to do than try and take away what few precious freedoms we have left. Please find a hobby! If you need help, I have come up with a list of possible suggestions for things you can do instead of spewing your idiocy here:

*Hiking--Take a long walk off a short bridge.
*go fly a kite
*go play in traffic
*pound sand (more enjoyable in Iraq)
*Go to Iraq! Volunteers wanted!
*join the Peace Corps
*Join the Foreign Legion
*Move to Lawrence
*just freaking move anywhere but here!
*Collect stamps!
*collect pogs
*collect anything other than this community's hatred for you
*GO AWAY!

That's all I could think of for now, more to follow!

So if the temperature at the Christmas parade is less than 47 degrees and there is a chance of light rain and wind, we should cancel that as well? Or should we let it continue, as in years past, with the temperatures in the teens?

Sounds like Sanderson is somewhat of a Mary to me.

"By the way; my name is Charlie Robison. Thank you."

And I'll see you in Houston, if I ever get out that way...

Judge: Bailiff, next time would you please refrain from carrying out the sentence for murder on the carpet. I'll be on the golf course if anyone needs me.

goodoleboy,

There are some people on this board that need to be offended.

A murder trial according to Paul:

Judge: Has the jury reached a verdict?

Jury Spokesman: We have your honor. We find the defendant guilty on the charge of premeditated murder.

Judge: Bang Bang Bang. All Rise. Bailiff, carry out the sentence for murder.

BLAM!

Judge: Bang Bang Bang. Court is adjourned.

"Comparing junior high and high school bands and cheerleaders and the paraders to combat troops in various wars is a little bit of a stretch don't you think."

My Grandpa was 16 when he joined the army in 1944. He turned 17 on Utah Beach.

Quit wasting tax dollars on this dude and just kill him already! If need be, I will volunteer my services. Really, two life sentences and a 20 year sentence consecutively? Why are we putting people in jail for 200 years? I would rather have someone shoot me than lock me up for the rest of my life. Kill the guy, make the execution the half-time special of the next KC game (at least people would have something to look forward to), and be done with it. No more tax dollars going to feed/clothe/clean/etc. No more parole hearings the family has to suffer through, a good reason to watch a KC game, there is no downside to my plan. Not to mention the fact that this would be a HUGE deterrent to crime! Let it be known to criminals that if you kill another human being in cold blood, we are going to kill you, and make your execution a fun event complete with cheerleaders.

"ESU quarterback Andre Sloan El found a wide open Lucas Sullivan in the back of the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-all."

At least they didn't go for two...

On ESU loses 52-7

Hell, lets cancel the war because of weather too...

I absolutely disagree with the parade cancellation. Are we now going to cancel the Christmas parade if its cold?
