Commissioners discuss pay raise

Wish I knew of a part time job that I could work that paid 18,000 a year. A lot of families and single parents are lucky if they make that working full time.

If they really want to ask for a raise they need to let the people of Lyon County vote on whether or not they deserve a raise, after all aren't we essentially their bosses, they represent US and we should have the right to determine if they deserve the raise or not.

I can think of a lot of good things our community could use that extra money for, let's concentrate on our making our community better not padding the pockets of wealthy businessmen.

Commissioners discuss pay raise

WHAT A GREAT IDEA, LETTING COMMISSIONER'S VOTE FOR THEIR OWN RAISES. WHAT A GREAT JOB TO HAVE TO BE ABLE TO GIVE YOURSELF SUCH A RAISE. Our County Commissioners can't pass a cost of living raise for their county employees or if they do then it is a 10 cent an hour raise instead of $2,500 more a year for a part time job. Our economic times are tough and we have numerous people without jobs right now thanks to Tyson layoffs and one of our nursing homes shutting down but as long as our county commissioners have money in their pockets then it is OK.

I hope next year when we go to the polls to vote we give serious consideration to who we vote for and how they are more interested in giving themselves raises instead of taking care of their employees who are out there everyday doing blue collar work.

No parade; service moved

I could understand if Budweiser didnt want the horses in the parade but why cancel the rest of the parade. Our troops go to war in all kinds of weather and the founding city of Veteran's Day cancels the parade that honors our brave men and women.

Counter-proposal offered by owners

My response to that is this. I cant take her out to dinner as a family cause there is not one nice family restaurant in this town that is completely smoke free. I want to take her bowling but I cant cause smoking is allowed and even if I did take her on a day where smoking is not allowed it has been allowed before and the smell still lingers there

Counter-proposal offered by owners

As a mother of a young child I like the ban to eliminate smoking in public places, I have visited towns where there is a smoking ban and it is nice to be able to go out in public have a nice family outing whether it be dinner or bowling or a movie and not come out smelling like a cigarette. Not to mention know that my daughter's asthma won't act up due to her inhaling second hand smoke.

I JUST HAVE ONE QUESTION.......THIS MORNING I SAW REX AT A RED LIGHT HE PUT HIS TRUCK IN PARK, GOT OUT AND WAS HANDING OUT FLYERS TO OTHER VEHICLES ABOUT HIS DOGS IN HIS TRUCKS.....HOW IS THIS SAFE AND LEGAL????????

HE IS SO CONCERNED ABOUT HIS DOGS HE SHOULD BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT CAUSING TRAFFIC HAZARDS

Smoke-free tavern

I am glad to see that someone in this town finally decided to cater to the group of people who don't smoke. My husband and I don't frequent bars in this town because of all the smoke. We will be sure to support this business. Good Job!

Chief explains animal policies

I read this article and I came to the conclusion that our city does not care to enforce to laws that they themselves set forth. We can pass a law about dogs not riding in trucks (which I agree with) but we cant enforce dogs running loose. What about the taxpayers that do follow the laws and pen up their dogs. Is it fair to them when other's are allowed to run free. What about the animal control officers telling me that they do not like coming to my neighborhood cause there are too many dogs running loose. Sounds to me like they dont want to do their job

Birds killed at zoo over weekend

Whoever did this just needs to do the right thing and turn yourself in. You made your one sad horrible mistake in your life but you can make up for some of it by turning yourself in and taking responsibility for your actions. You know who you are and sooner or later it is going to come out and you will be caught. It will be easier on you if you just turn yourself in.

As for my husband and I we are going to donate money to the zoo to help with replacement of the loved birds and the purchase of security cameras.

No action on dog call

I would like to know our police departments and city commissioner's answer to that question. I have placed many calls to the the animal control officers and the police department for dogs running loose and provoking my dogs who are in a fenced yard. One of the responses I got from the animal control officer was "I dont like coming to your neighborhood, there are too many loose dogs running around." Other times I have gotten the response from the police that if the dog isn't vicious they cant do anything about it when there are no animal control officers on duty. I know that people in my neighborhood wait until animal control is not on duty and let their dogs out (they have confessed this). Our city commissioner's need to WAKE UP and get more funding for our officers. If they dont want to have someone directly on duty all of the time, make them be ON CALL so when a call comes in they can come out and deal with it.
