apsuz, yes I have had involvement with SRS/Mental Health etc concerning children welfare and quite frankly was not impressed with either. In fact, I have little respect for their agenda/services, especially how they are allowed to carry out intervention seperating children from their parents prior to their cases being proven true and factual. The State of Texas and it's citizens are going to pay dearly for similar actions taken by the SRS of Texas when they took all of those children out of the religious compound.
Bjnemp, I didn't have to do it many times. My parents did the same with me as a kid. I hope my kids do the same with my grandkids. Correlation indeed.

I'd bet the person who did the robbery is not the type to have a good steady work history, has little to offer as far as common sense or intelligence, has a prior criminal record, and most likely did it to support his drug habit rather than trying to make ends meet. A donut shop at 6am is not likely to have large sums of money, maybe a couple hundred dollars at most. That's not desperate, going to prison for a $200 is moronic. I'd be willing to bet he lives close by, and has a meth problem.

My children learned the meaning of no and what brought them a swat on the butt at a very young age. Both of my kids are self confident, goal oriented, straight A students, are active in school sports and activities, are officers in student government, and are well aware the differences between right and wrong. They also know the consequences they would be subject to if they commit crimes. The claim that you can't discipline your child is just that, an excuse. A swat on the butt is not child abuse. IMO, people who say they can't spank their children, only use that as an excuse to keep from having to be the disciplinarian they don't have the backbone to be. Parents that use fly swatters, big wooden paddles, yard sticks or other material objects to spank with, slap across the face or punch with a closed fist leaving welts, bruises etc, now that's a different story and should be reported as child abuse. Most kids out causing trouble lack stability at home. Their parents are trying to be their friend, are too lazy to get involved, or they simply cannot be bothered by properly raising their child. I'm betting the kids in this report were or are being raised by parents that were the same way when they were young, allowed to come and go as they pleased, and allowed to do much more than they should have been. I worked in law enforcement for nine years. The majority(95% or better) of the juvenile criminals I dealt with came from disfunctional families and very liberal households. Their parents often had criminal records and or anti-establishment/rules/laws attitudes. Alcohol and narcotic abuse were common within their households. Most of the kids I dealt with were capable of being good productive citizens had they been raised in a better environment.
The entry by Bjnemp at the top of the page was dead on.

Research? That shouldn't take long, he hasn't done anything worthy of being recorded.(unless you count pinning Mrs. C. to the mat)

Maximum sentence is 32 months. Compared to loosing one's life, that is very light and I mean that respectfully rbmorgan.
Coyote hunting or not, the verdict from the jury today said that shooting onto property you do not have permission to hunt on is illegal. (Criminal Discharge of a Firearm)
They also passed down a guilty verdict on Unlawful Hunting for shooting from the road when he did not have permission from adjoining landowners from either side of the road.
For the coyote hunters that believe he had the right to hunt coyotes from the road and from his vehicle, pay heed to these verdicts.
You can use a vehicle in the pursuit of a coyote, WHILE HUNTING ON PROPERTY YOU PERMISSION TO HUNT ON. You can shoot at coyotes from your vehicle, WHILE ON PROPERTY YOU HAVE PERMISSION TO HUNT ON.
Same goes for other types of hunting. Unless you are physically unable to hunt away from the road and are licensed as physically challenged, get off the road to hunt!

$10k is a bit light considering the costs of medical care these days. One lawsuit against the county for failing to provide adequate medical attention would cost much more than $10k, win or lose in the case.

Back many years ago when I was in Jaycees, our organization did the fireworks display at the fairgrounds. We spent lots of money on the fireworks collected thru our various fund raisers. We also sought donations from businesses and citizens right up to the start of the show to fund the event. Every year, our club saw declining donations, yet every year the crowds who came to see the show grew. The larger crowds did not bring in more donations, in fact we encountered many that wouldn't donate so much as a dime towards the show. The last year I was was involved, we spent several thousand dollars out of our own account to be sure the show went on. Everyone enjoys the display of big fireworks, too bad they arent weren't willing to pitch in a help pay for it. That's why you will have to travel to another town this year to see the big show.
As for the police enforcing the fireworks ban, failure to do so in the past 20-30 years is why fireworks can be heard/seen in Emporia two weeks prior to and weeks following the 4th now. It should have been enforced from day one when the ordinance became effective.
For those of you who go out in the country to shoot off your fireworks, remember that the roads are for public use, that is for driving your vehicles upon. It doesn't mean you and your party of 30 can set up camp in the middle of the road and have a bbq and bonfire party. Keep in mind the land adjacent to the roads is private property, do not stray off the road onto it, shoot your fireworks off into the fields, nor use the land as a dump site for your trash. It is not legal to leave your fireworks trash behind on the road either. You can be criminally and civilly liable for damages if you set ditches, crops or hayfields on fire. Expect to be checked out by the Sheriff's Dept, most rural landowners don't want you near their land shooting off fireworks either.

I got that flier in the mail as well alfalfa. One thing is certain, he won't be able to lower taxes AND increase school spending.
Rep. Mast is one of the most accessible Legislators I've encountered at the Capital. She is always ready to meet with you.

"and as soon as this child was taught in pre-school that abuse could be used as a tool to get what the child wanted, this child started using it to their advantage."
That statement is a good example of why I lack respect for the SRS and Mental Health agenda/services.
Have you ever considered how crime has increased nearly every year, prison populations have exploded, how many kids are being diagnosed and treated for ADD, all since agencies like SRS and Mental Health have became involved with the court system? Talk about correlation. They have done good for kids that are being found in dire living conditions, yes, but they have created job security for themselves as well by interjecting themselves into situations that they have no business being involved in.
