Experts, clients testify in fraud trial
What will lose the case for the AG's office is their lack of real proof and that the majority of their case is based on testimony from individuals with serious brain injuries. If you do the research on trauma to the brain it is evident that these individuals lack the ability to remember things properly and deal with serious anger issues in many cases. Thus, they do not make creditable witnesses.
I have known Vivian for many years and am sure mistakes were made in her paperwork. She is a caring, compassionate individual that lacks the organization needed to keep accurate records properly. I think she is guilty of very poor record keeping, but not of intentionally defrauding the state.
My family wishes her the best

A need for time-out
You forgot to address in this article that once all the "hype" started across the nation the original speech that had been planned was changed. I think the best place for this speech would have been on public TV in the evening so parents could view and discuss it with their children. I do not think the "hype" was so much about the speech itself, but about it being shown in schools, leaving the follow up conversations to the teachers.
I applaud the school districts that opted out of showing this speech and decided to stick with the curriculum that schools are suppose to work on. I have watched the speech and it was a great inspirational speech, but it did not need to take time out of the school day and it did not need to be something teachers spent classroom time discussing.

City commission says no to historic district
What I find sad it that no matter what decision the commissioners make, someone on here is going to criticize them.
From what I read in this article it does not look like Bob Agler opposed the historic district, but wanted more information before making a decision. I would venture to say that if the commission had more time to gather information this would have passed, as long as they felt it would not do harm to existing businesses. Side note to the first two comments, it is Bob's son that owns the car lot.
You can twist things however you would like in order to create an argument, which happens often on these blogs. As far as saving money by using city employees to remove the seats, IT DOES! If they contracted it out, the city would still be paying its employees their full time wages along with paying the contractor.
I would like to say thank you to our commissioners for all their hard work. I may not always agree with the choices made, but I respect your position and appreciate the time you put in for our city.

Community Corrections Board puts all its eggs in one basket
onehorsetown or should I say Itiswhatitis (since both accounts were just created to make statements on this issue): I apologize that you have taken such a great offense to my opinion.
You see my generation was raised to be involved in your community. I was raised that those that take an active role in their community and politics gain the right to voice their opinions. I have put many years in and feel I have the right to my opinion. This is a small community, if you take an active position you are aware of the issues and form an opinion on what will serve the community best. I will continue to share that opinion and continue to respect other's opinions that have also played an active role.

Positives and negatives
I have lived in Kansas my entire 48 years and have traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world. I enjoy my travels and the different scenery and I also have to say I love coming home to the Flint Hills!

Community Corrections Board puts all its eggs in one basket
All I can say is I am disappointed in this decision. We need a more diverse group of programs rather then putting all the funds in one place. This program has already been in place for so long and has not really proven to be successful. I had higher expectations of community corrections being ran under Mr. Sullivan; however, it seems to still be moving in the same direction that Mr. Marsh started it in. Very unfortunate
I would also like to state that it is evident that Mr. Sullivan has failed to get his employees "better then the rest" attitudes under control by the looks of Itiswhatitis's blog. The attack on familyfirst was uncalled for. Just an FYI to Itiswhatitis, not all parents are like the ones you typically deal with and you DO NOT have all the correct answers to parenting. If a parent wants to pull their child out of school for an outing that they feel is in their best interest there is NOTHING wrong with that. You need to drop the "big brother" attitudes. I don't believe it is familyfirst tha is ignorant of the system, but rather Itiswhatitis that is ignorant of parents rights!

Another school board filing
As a parent that has attended several board meetings over the last several years and sat on many district committees, I can say from a first hand viewpoint that I have been very happy with Mr. Crouch as a board member. As a member of this community that has not missed voting in an election since I was legally able to, I can also state for certain that Mr. Crouch will have my vote this spring. It will be good for our district to retain an individual with experience given the upcoming budget cuts that they will see with the state of our economy.
I find it unfortunate that individuals are passing judgment on Mr. Crouch after he has given so much of himself to this community in several volunteer, non-paid situations. I am also aware that the Gazette did fail in equally covering the reasons for board member's absences. What a shame that Emporia_Spartan has based their sole opinion upon one article. I wonder if Emporia_Spartan has ever ran or held a public position for no-pay!
I do not want to directly attack any board member; however, I feel that Emporia_Spartan seems to have put the three new members on a pedestal. As a parent of children in this district I can state that some of the new members decisions were not what I felt were the best interest of children in this district, nor do I feel they have in anyway moved this district forward. I hope to see the position left open filled by a parent that is more in touch with the needs of our students rather then more people without children currently in the district. I do hope to see Mrs. Miller or Mrs. Scheller file for the open positions.

Emporia gets new master teacher
Congratulations to Jeline Harclerode, she is very deserving of this award. She has a true heart for children and education. As a parent, she is the type of teacher I want for all my children to have.
Thank you Jeline, for your years of service to the children of this district
