Its sad that this kind of angst and fervor is rarely displayed for the ACADEMIC professors. It is just football, and athletics should come after academics, not before. I think the whole program should be taken intramural.

So, everyone voted against the 5-member commission because it would make our taxes go up and now the commission wants to raise the taxes anyway. If you raise taxes you will also be looking for a new job, you namby-pamby nerdnicks. You old boy "I got mine so to heck with everyone else" jerkwads. I'm sick of this "county vs. town" crap.

An ordinance that works against any animal that commits a vicious act (regardless of breed) is not breed specific. I would support an ordinance that punishes owners as well as the animal who commits a vicious act on a person or other animal. A dog that hauls off and kills another dog just for the heck of it should not be around people or other animals.

In the best of all possible worlds, all income-earning people would give annually to the charities of their choice. Then we wouldn't need fundraisers! Using an effective, centralized, and efficient entity like the United Way eases the huge fundraising burden on individual charities. If each group had to spend all their time raising money, there wouldn't be any time left to do the good works they do. If we would ALL do our part, these organizations wouldn't have to go "begging" for money every year.

"We hope she solves these problems," he said. "If not, we're here."

What kind of comment is that? The three branches of government are supposed to work together, not against each other. The main problem with state government these past years is that the house and senate have spent all of their energy trying to thwart anything that Sebelius might approve of - cutting off your noses despite your faces--that they haven’t done a damn thing.

It’s not a question of us or them. You guys are up there to work together, to compromise, to find win-win solutions, not to bash each other bloody and then say “Look! I won and she didn’t!” Nobody wins when you don’t function as a democracy.

Get your heads out of your rears and get to work for the people, not your own petty party agenda.

Why did Barnett have his watch party in Topeka and not his home town? All that money could have been spent here--Shop Emporia First, eh?

I've been wishing I had the money to put in a billboard in that says "There is no God but Allah!" just to try and make a point. When you attempt to force your particular religious view on everyone else you go directly against the primary reason this nation was founded: Freedom to worship in the manner you choose, not the manner which is chosen for you by someone else. Those bulletin boards imply that Emporia doesn't believe in that freedom. Any thoughtful person cringes when they see them: they're bigoted and small minded. God sees your heart, not your bulletin board. That money could feed the hungry or keep the heat on for a poor person this winter...

Why would someone who was "called" to be a physician want to give up his time for healing people to be a politician? Either you want to heal the sick or you don't--how are his patients going to get the care and attention they need if Dr. Barnett has the weight of the state on his shoulders? I haven't heard anything from him about Sebelius except hateful words and derision--is that the quality of communication we should expect? Mr. "my way or the highway" - haven't we had enough of that in the Presidency? I want a consensus builder, a modern thinker, a "whole picture" person like Sebelius.

Any billboard that doesn't tell me I'm going to roast in hell would be welcome.

Bulletin boards that express the opinion that we're all going to roast in hell as sinners and abortionists are not helping.
