jennienbj....
Yes, my dog is a red nose. You should see him now...he has gotten so big and beautiful.
I can't thank you enough for your help. He has not been left in an unlocked kennel since we got him back!!
800 block of State....12th street down by the Baptist Church....Down by Jones Park...always loose dogs in Jones Park....the list goes on and on.
The house my dog was being kept in was not used for breeding....from the abuse my dog suffered, I would say they train them to fight there...EPD seemed to know the house and the people.....
Anyway, thanks again jennienbj and you are welcome in our home anytime!!!

KUtriSIS,
I feel they don't care about my dog because of his breed, but that is just my opinion. I am ashamed to say that I have even gone as far as saying this very thing to the dispatch person that answered the phone.
I don't pretend to know the workload of EPD, but if they have been to a house several times for problems with dogs why is nothing done?
If they keep getting calls about the same loose dogs from the same areas, why is nothing done?
They don't even seem to care about cruelty to animals. My poor baby had very prominent marks of abuse all over his head and back. It took a very long time for him to overcome his fear of everything.....he was very spooked and with good reason.
I as well can provide numerous addresses where dogs are almost always loose.
I had said earlier that I think of my dog as a family member. That is true so like a child who I am responsible for, legally and financially, until they are 18, I am, and accept, responsibility, legally and financially for my dog until his time here on earth is over.
My ONLY problem with some of the people that post is they want to group all of us and our dogs into one category. I agree with most everything else they have to say.

You make me laugh Bjnemp.
Just so you know, I am not stevenlk's mom.
I did however take my dog from my son. I believe in my heart that my son got this dog for most of the stereotypical reasons....if a mom can't be honest about her son, who can...
I was not about to have this animal become what some people make them.
I have had him for 2 years now and love him dearly. When he was 9 months old he was stolen out of his kennel.....I forgot to lock it. I had flyers printed and posted all over this town...and thank the good lord above, got a call telling me where he was.
The police were less than entusiastic about going to the house to get my dog. When they met me there, they said "These people have alot of "Pits"..we have been here before"
They went in, came out later and said my dog was not in there...right after they left...the owners opened the door and out came my dog...running for his life. He had been beat and I doubt if he had been given food or water.
I called EPD and they came to my house and then said "We saw that dog, but are you sure it is yours?" Then did nothing to the people that had him....so typical.
Very long story, perhaps of no interest to you, but you will see that I love and care about this animal. To my other children and I he is a family member, just like our cats.
I have lived my entire life with cats, dogs, horses and all the other typical farm animals. I love animals, but I also value human life and others rights.
So again I ask you to look at the precautions I take and if you find fault with them, please let me know.

Bjnemp seems to like to sterotype people as well....
"I would be glad to compare IQs, educations, incomes, or accomplishments with you anytime you choose. I love a sure bet." What kind of statement is that?
My dog is in a 12 foot by 6 foot by 6 foot kennel...anchored to a concrete slab, with concrete anchors and his kennel door is padlocked. He is NEVER out of his kennel without being on his leash.
I do not do this because he is mean...I do this because I am a responsible pet owner. He also has a nice house and is given food, water, exercise and love everyday.
I follow all existing laws and take all the necessary precautions to avoid putting myself or my dog in any situation that I do not feel comfortable in.
Also, we have changed our walking schedule many times to avoid the loose dogs...all breeds that run rampant around Emporia after 5:00 pm. We have been attacked more than once by vicious small dogs...
The last one the owners sat on their porch and laughed because my "big bad dog" would not defend himself. These people don't deserve to own any animal...JMO
I am a responsible pet owner and yet some of you would have my dog banned.....
If you are willing to compare IQ's and education with people, you must consider yourself intellegent, so surely you can see that there is no reason for my dog to be banned. You can surely see that I am responsible and go out of my way to make sure no one feels threatened by my dog.
Please tell me what you think I am doing wrong....how am I being the sterotype....on parole or probation....drive a big truck with big tires....own alot of guns.....the list goes on and on.....

hottopics...I agree that an attack is an attack no matter the size.
Would everyone still feel the same if my dog was a pit bull? If me and a pit bull were walking, with it on a leash, and got attacked by a loose dog and the pit bull dog killed the attacking dog...
I can see the headlines "Pit Bull Attack"
You seem to be among the few that don't seem to be trying to "ban" a specific breed. Even though you personally have had horrible experiences with the pit type animals. I applaud you for that.
I think ANY dog, ANY size, that is running loose and bites should be taken from it's owner.
Maybe the smaller dogs are covered under the nuisance dogs law? Just asking because I really don't know.
We very much need 24/7 Animal Control.

hottopics...
Thanks for your answer. That said, just because a smaller dog will probably not "seriously" injure me or my dog, it is not vicious. Not sure I agree with that, but that is my feeling.
In each of the cases I listed above, there was no provocation. We were walking, with my dog on a leash, on a public sidewalk.
If my dog had decided to fight back in any way, which she did not, and kill the attacking dog, who is running loose, who is at fault? Mine because she may be larger?
What laws will protect us from these attacks?
I agree 100% with what you say, but we still have a problem. EPD does not seem to care about or enforce the current laws so we should not be surprised they don't enforce what you have tried to do.
We have changed our walking schedule to much later at night when most of the repeat offenders of letting their dogs run loose, have gone to bed.
Better to be safe than sorry I say.

I am curious to know what everyone considers "vicious"
I agree that larger breed dogs...ALL, not just pit bull type, can inflict more damage.
What about the "ankle biter" that bit my son in the face and he required stitches? Is that dog vicious?
What about the German Shepherd that bit my son and ripped his sweatshirt to pieces? Is that dog vicious?
What about the Chihuahua that crossed the street to bite at both my dog and I? Is that dog vicious?
What about the medium size dog that attacked my dog, who was on her leash, and I had to kick several times to get it off my dog, before it's owners got up off their butts and got ahold of it? Is that dog vicious?
Again, are we lucky we have never had a run in with the pit type dogs, maybe but we have had plenty of troube with other kinds of unleashed or not fenced in dogs.
EPD...enforce the leash law and when someone complains about a dog at large...do something...do not wait until another person gets bit.

My dog and I have been chased down and bitten at more times than I can remember by "dogs at large". EPD always gives the same story....no one on duty...blah, blah, blah. Just for the record, not once has there been a pit bull involved in any of these attacks. Have we been lucky? Maybe. My dog is NEVER outside her kennel without being on a leash.
My son was bitten by a German Shephard. The owners of this "lovely" dog have a very poor excuse for a fence and told the EPD that the dog has never shown any aggression and was probably just playing........since the bite was not serious, and the owners had proof of vacinations, they were not even given a ticket.......
I understand, I am not stupid, that a larger dog can inflict more damage than a smaller dog. That does not change the fact that there are alot of small dogs here in Emporia that run loose and do bite.
No matter the breed, people need to be responsible pet owners. Destroying a whole breed does not seem like the answer to me. JMO
