Dead remembered in services

It was a beautiful day for a memorial service and pretty cool that the huey crew come to visit. It would be nice if the speaker would say something short and simple that would actually honor veterans instead of rambeling for 30 minutes about their "war story". Alot of people left becuse the servive was toooo looooooong. The veterans in the color guard do not need to stand there forever waiting for someone to shut up. Who ever organizes the service need to get together and realize that people to go the service to honor veterans not to be bored to death.

Some Emporia tornado sirens not working

mr. facts - why dont' you start by acknolwleding that the sirens are not 50 years old. I remember when thy were put and it was not no 50 years ago. And yea- me and probably half of the others here have either a wather radio and/or bearcat scanner to keep posted on weather situations and someone us i would bet attend the annual storm spotter meetings. Quite being so stuck on yourself and think of others for a change. Not eveyone is between the ages of 20 and 60, Stop and think about the senior citizens and children who are left alone who don't pay attention to the weather. Face it ten year old kids have not learned to pay attention to the weather, but they do know that when the sirens go off, they need to take acton. So, lets just get the sirens fixed once and for all and you can go back to Oklahoma

Some Emporia tornado sirens not working

Let us consider the facts - It is so interesting that two of the sirens that do not work are close to very populated areas. ESU, with a student population of close to 5,000-6,000 students that most of them DO LIVE close to the university, plus consider the faculity and staff that work there. JONES PARK, right next to Lincoln Village trailer park and Four Seasons apartments, Gee, does anyone else remember when they were hit by the tornado back in the 1970's. There was not a whole lot left of the trailer park after that one. TRYSA soccer field. Consider the stupid parents that push their kids to play stupid games no matter what the weather is. Ok - So the question is. How far does Zimmy live from the siren at Jones Park? It is the closet one to him or is there one closer? What about Smithy? or my favorite, what about mr. homeland security, Frevert? Come on here, we can't forget Frevert cause if something would ever happen, he should be there putting his emergency plan to work. GOD HELP US. It would be worth a drive around to just check out how far the good ol boys, including the city commissioners, live of actual working sirens.

City looks at changes in jobs

The best thing that could happen to emporia would be for zimmerman to go back where he came from. what a joke for a city manager, all he cares about is lining his own pockets at the expense of all the other city employees. if he would shut up long enough to listen to what decient, intelligent residents of emporia say, he might actually learn something, Emporia should really hope and pray that the city commissioners (agler, longbine, johnson, kessler, nelson) can keep a handle on this one better then the commissions kept on good ol' Steve. If you all remember, Steve had a few problems with the budget and the fool we have now is going to continue to lead us down that same path. Wake up and get zimmie out of office before he ruins this town any more. If zimmie gave a #$#$ about anybody but him self he would have not accepted that $5,000,

Westar: Filipino workers being released

This afternoon one of the bus that transports the illeagls was parked at Candlewood. schreiber, heerman and zimmerman are all a like. No Good for Emporia. There should be some TRUTH from westar, rda and the city. Remember the rda is suppose to be accountable to the city.

If this workers are illeagl, who are their translators? How long have they been in AMERICA, taking jobs away from our citizens? Where were they before they were in Nebraska? Where are they going to after they leave here? We will never know. Where has OSHA been all of this time? We will never know.

Since they DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH, and they DO NOT UNDERSTAND OSHA, and they ARE WELDING at a plant that has 17-inch GAS LINES. Who that has any common sense, is going to INSPECT that place before it is started up? "BANG! BANG!

Illegal workers?

yeah i heard meek was long gone, a few months ago too. as for hill, barnett and mast, they won't do anything cause they are to close to schreiber, if you know what i mean. shrieber spends all of his time playing kiss up to the legislativors. osha should just come in and put pad-locks on the gates and not let any more construction happen until the WHOLE TRUTH is known to the actual public. there are just to many secrets in this town between the powers-that-want-to-be - like mr. RDA, that 'wonderful' new city manager, and the city and county commish.

Police chief makes pItch for a k-9 unit for Emporia department

Hey Flush - How interesting that Smith trys to tell everyone that the dog is to be funded by local private donations, when it is the county that he wants to foot the bill. If smith is not willing to be truthful about who is funding the dog, makes you wonder what else he is not truthful about.

Pride in Bowyer

Who cares - Clint is a good ol boy and does a great job recognizing emporia, but kdot has enough signs along the road already. if you want to add any more signs you should take some down that are already up. you can start by taking down the stupid red and blue signs around town that try to point the way to different places in town. what a stupid waste of money was spent on them. its not like emporia is so big that people can't find there way around. And its time you all stop trying to be something your not. How many of you were watching car racing back in the 70's, probably not that many. most of you didnot even know that it existed until clint started driving. Get real. Emporia and emporians need to quit trying to be something that you are not.
