Next time they need to think about calling off a chase when it is headed through a school zone. I was at the intersection watching kids trying to cross the street when they went blowing through there. Is a stolen car important enough to risk our kids lives trying to go to school. There were sheriff dept. car right behind the car and then there were ones several blocks back that still blew through there when they could have chose not to run full speed through the school zone as the car was already covered.

Fine the property owner $500 plus cost to have of hiring a lawn service to clean it up.

There should be no difference between business owners and residential homes.

Council Grove canceled there's also this year, they couldn't shoot them off from the riverwalk anymore and didn't try to find a new place like when they used to shoot them off of the dam.

As for Emporia the way our city runs things it's no wonder it is going down the tubes. Zimmerman can get a raise after being here a year but the city employee's that have been working underpaid for way to long still get the shaft.

The city preaches to spend money in Emporia but then goes and removes events that draw people from other communities and the money they were spending. Now that money and tax revenue will goto other towns, not to mention all the money from Emporia resident are now going to spend in other surrounding city's to watch fireworks and enjoy the day that is supposed to be to celebrate our independence.

It's sad to see a City that shows so much to Veteran's Day turn around and not support Independence Day. Maybe if the city managed money better we could have past events instead of build a sidewalk to no where that hasn't even been completed and looks like crap and clock tower that is a big joke to this town.

"The plant will also need a gas line that Assistant City Manager Mark McAnarney estimated at $700,000 to $800,000. The city will put up the up-front costs on the line, but a portion of it will be repaid by the biodiesel company."
I'd like to see the amount that they have to repay. It seems the City is going all out for this plant that will employ only 20 or so people.

Also how much traffic is going to cut across the gas station parking lot to get to hwy 50/turnpike because they can't turn left at the corner?

The kids in question should have to finish out there school year during summer school. I agree that it's giving them an extended summer break with the suspension and by making them complete their education during the summer will break this up a bit. The other option would be to fail the grade level and start all over again next year. They need to also know that there is some kind of consequence for their actions whether it be on a juvenile record that requires some type of punishment or on the school level. Either way these kids have put themselves in a bind for their actions and if they don't get there problems solved they will continue a downward spiral leading to school drop out or even worse a criminal record that they will have to deal with for the rest of their lives. I also believe that rough housing around in grade school and middle school are different in being by middle school the kids should know better then to pull this kind of thing if the correct actions are taken while they are in grade school to start the correct path.

Not only would it effect Longbine it would effect may other business that also use that route to reach hwy 50 and/or turnpike, Including companies renting space in the old Diddie buildings and many others along 12th Ave. If it was changed to no left hand turns off of 12th Ave. it would IMO cause more traffic issue in the direction of the schools as there is no easy turn around points for tractor trailers if they are forced to turn North. There needs to be a better study of the intersection then this to find out how it impacts the area business and people of Emporia whom travel this route one a daily basis.

Nothing against Dale Bell, but Emporia needs experience before things change for the worst. At least with the other four you can goto to their current positions on the internet and see how things are run in their current setting. Also search for news topics for the city they are currently working for to see if there is any questionable decisions made that would effect the city in a negative way. After researching on the net I could see where 2 of the prospects stick out more then the others.
