‘Halloween’ cemetery tour canceled amid controversy
my son age 23 is buried in the older part and I know he would of loved the idea of it all. I can not understand why some people just can't understand there was no disrespect intended. I would say more, but do not want to lower my self and get kicked off here.
But if I saw no problem, then maybe others should lighten up, also

County budget proposes a 4.2 mill tax increase
we have three years left on our 15 year loan, we are on fixed incomes. might just have to "give" it away, as we can't afford the payments to go up again next year. it is an old house. not new but payments are 614.00 and we barley scrap by now. to bad they can't get jobs and businesses in town to make up for the money THEY don't have,

City property tax increase now on the table
you know I hope they don't raise the property tax, as people like me on fixed incomes, with no cost of living increase in sight, just can not do it much longer. they need jobs here, and a reason for people to come and build the plants and jobs. this is just getting a bit much for the regular people any more to afford.

Don’t let the memory fade
This is well thought of, and hope that we the voters do the right thing and make our needs, and wants known.

Don't forget to shovel
what about the streets? and what do you do., when you are elderly and disabled and can not just jump out there with the wind-chills so far below zero? I guess that is not important.

Feeding kids is a wise investment
Maybe we could use some of that monument money feeding the children of the town?

Defending the Monument

Defending the Monument
I guess from the statements made, City leaders have no intention of re-visiting the issue and they have already set in motion the construction process.
The mayor said he knew all along it would cost this much and he anticipated some backlash from the public because of the price tag.
“My answer to that is this will be a good benefit to Emporia,” he said. “It will instill a sense of pride and will be a sign of progress.”
No one comes much to town to impress with the stones, and those who would or do, would wonder why waste all that money. our opinions do not matter here.
