@ eddison2 fully aggree with you. Seems a little selfish to to take even more profits from the company therefore accomplishing nothing but more layoffs in other towns think of them and their families. The world doesn't revolve around Emporia. They ARE a buisness. they make money. period. Yes my family and I are being displaced by the layoff but.. well... oh well I've accepted it, New areas new things to see I personally don't wanna die in a one-horse town.

They are in the middle of an economic explosion. In a few years they will be on par and have better regulations. You would think though that they would learn from other countries mistakes and do it from the start... But what government does before people start dying....even then you never know.

@CAFEemporia. Really? Not trying to be argumentative buy come on! There are different and far more beneficial things to consider. Think about it.... What would the slogan for our town be? "Welcome to Emporia! Home of shiny lamp posts big pointless clocks umm a wal-mart" Why not invest that money to expand our tiny museum? Add a year round youth activity center? I highly doubt the sound of trains will keep a company from building here. But that is just my opinion. Sorry to hear about your head injury by the way. Glad you pulled through.

On ‘Quiet zone’ on back burner for the city

Definately more important things to worry about as far as money. If they don't like the noise there put a gazebo in a different park. The trains sound their horns for safety purposes. Think about complaining about the noise when a 5yo is getting scraped off the front a train. I live right next to the tracks I knew I would hear trains. Seems silly to spend SO much money for something so obvious. STOP SPENDING MONEY ON DUMB SH#T!! Seriously.

On ‘Quiet zone’ on back burner for the city

@gazette_reader yeah it sucks for them but not as much as you think. Most that I spoke to were excited to go somewhere new. A few explained to me that they are nomadic people most don't even care for their own children, The eldest in the family does, So for some I can't speak for all. it's an adventure. Seems strange to us but it's part of their culture.

And yeah the what-ifs are going to be terrible. At least those of us on 2nd shift knew right away.

On More Tyson workers laid off

I apologize If I somehow offended you morethenenough, But as far as lies I heard it from that man's mouth. As myself and other team members were standing in the Hallway after hearing the news. While others are crying we here a management person laughing! "Sh#t HAPPENS!!??" I worked there for over 10 years for NOTHING. But hey I'll move to an area with more oppurtunties for me and my two little girls. Before you get pissed at ME put yourself in my shoes with my friends and trying to comfort them while wondering what the hell I'm gonna do.

Heard they gave notices to the first shift employees today. wonder if that's true. And that they are closing it and NOT selling it. Keeping it for some kind of deduction.

Tyson offered to pay for people willing to move. My family currently is off to the Joslin plant. Beautiful area maybe some of the rest should move up there. Anyways. Like many have said Tyson is out to make money. Look at the guy in charge now "Dick Bond" he was big in IBP too and managed to rack up a ton of debts that Tyson inherited. This plant lost alot of money on a daily basis.

Most of the managers at this plant took this very hard. Mike fiehler could barely bring himself to talk to anyone. There was alot of the managment that actually did care for the hourly employees. Spent most of their time trying to comfort those that lost their jobs. It's a given that you have people who could care less if it doesn't actually effect them.
Some of the upper management had the "Sh#t happens attitude" and even expressed it to their hourly employees *cough* Mike Fleeman *cough* but for the most part excluding the latter the managment cares. Eventually Emporia will recover. I hope the city managers put the money towards more useful projects i.e. More activities for the kids in this town. More activities period. More places to go other than bars and wal-mart. Anyways. Good luck I wish you all well and I hope things look up for the local economy.
