The sad part about this is....is that you can't really tell in the beginning stages of drug use. The kids whether they are "wild" or are the "A" students will sometimes get involved with drugs. For those that say "not my kid" you might have a surprise coming. I don't condone wholesale drug testing for every one something has to be done because the kid sure is not going to tell you he/she is using drugs. Alot of it is peer pressure. As long as society thinks it is cool and glamourous to do drugs and as long as we tolerate it, it will happen. I have seen many lives ruined because of drugs. jb

This is not a good idea for the company for the above stated reasons. If you are legal to drink and stay out from behind the wheel that is one thing. But making cans of this nature can only make them more desirable to the college age kids.
Unfortunately there have been many instances of underage drinking associated with college life and we have had to bury quite a few of the victims whether from alcohol poisoning or fatality auto accidents.

How about the beer companies promoting a safety program that deals with overdrinking, underage drinking and DWI ?

Due to damage to the fence, gaps, gates left open, etc.
the rabbit population still was able to migrate beyond the fence. Once only two of them escaped then they spread like wildfire. It is quite a story and it was interesting to see that they spent all that time building several fences that ran for hundreds of miles and it didn't do much good.

However three aboriginal girls were able to follow the fence and return to their home many miles away. Search
the net for "Rabbit Proof Fence". There is a movie also. jb

Before he builds this he needs to learn about the "Rabbit Proof Fence" in Australia. It just did not work.

This law was written that way probably to keep the Ted Kennedy's out of prison. This man should have at least served some prison time for killing someone because he failed to follow the law. The company that owned the truck should also pay the family a very large sum for the support and loss of the mother of three. In my opinion this person got off way to easy. One of the redeeming factors is that the drivers family is compassionate and does feel for the victims family. A very long period of suspension of his drivers license would cause him to think about the death he caused.

This officer made a grave error in judgement by removing an item from the vehicle and not logging it into evidence or listing it on a vehicle inventory form. No matter what his intentions he should have followed proper protocol by logging this item into a property room. If later a judge or district attorney allowed it to be released to a law enforcement agency to help fight against drugs that would have been acceptable. It would seem that he didn't intend to steal it or he may have kept it for himself. The Deputy should have never accepted the device without proper authorization.

I hate to see Hastings go. It is a fine store. One also closed in the Kansas City area and we wrote them and they responded that it didn't meet the profit projections. It was busy all the time. Sometimes I just don't understand their reasoning as the store in Emporia appeared to be doing well.
There is one in Topeka and Lawrence. I hope that they don't want to close them also.
Try to visit them before they close and pick up the book by the author from Lebo, I hear it's a good story. jb

These folks don't get enough recognition. They are really the un-seen heros of law enforcement, fire and medical services.

They take the calls that not many want to take and have to get precise information to pass on to the police, firefighters and medics. A lot of this information can make the difference
between life and death. The safety of the persons in the field and the person calling are always foremost on their mind.

It takes a very special person to do this job. Thanks!

I think it is a mistake for the ads to be printed in ANY language but English. I am not against the Spanish language or against the Hispanic people but the language of America
is English. If we open up the door to every language then you would have to print 10 newspapers in every town and the burden on government, schools, hospitals and business
would be terrible if everything had to be posted in several languages. When the persons moved here I think that it is their obligation to learn Enlish just as it would be our duty to
learn their language if we moved to their country. jb
