Defending the Monument

My property taxes are $2400 a year, $200 a month. If I were to pay for the stones all by myself, it would take me 42 years to buy them and have them installed. Guess that kinda puts them in perspective... Does anyone else want to work a lifetime for those 4 "monuments" to greed and stupidity.

Defending the Monument

I emailed the City Commissioners and Matt Zimmerman. I have heard so far from Julie Johnson and Matt Zimmerman. Zimmerman & Johnson said many have expressed concerns about the appearance of our City, especially the entrances.... Hmmm. Rundown houses and potholes, yes. Entrances coming into town, no. Zimmerman stopped short of indicating that over 18 months we all had plenty of opportunity to voice our opinion. I read the Gazette everyday so if there was a lot in print, it must have been buried on page 5. And I would say a majority of the non-vocal people are already apathetic from other issues that are run on through (kinda like the Middle School bond issue that kept getting voted down until people gave up and gave in). I think it takes a lot of gall for our City leaders to follow on through with this plan. I can't remember an issue that had as many blogs as this one. And as for Davis - I would think he could afford to donate the rocks. This is nothing but padding pockets. I have never been so disgusted at a "City" decision- and adding insult to injury - their blatant refusal to reconsider. Shame! Shame!

City to spend at least $100,000 on entrance monuments

mslater supplied email addresses in an earlier blog. I intend to voice my disgust and hope everyone else does the same.
I have lost respect for all parties involved. While we struggle in these hard times to take care of our families, do you think we are all asleep????

City to spend at least $100,000 on entrance monuments

I can't believe this was an unanimous vote! I'm mad as hell... Spending $100,000 for overpriced stones?? What are the dimensions of these ripoffs?? Setting the stones will require a little excavation, a little concrete for the footings and equipment to move and set them up. My friend bought a smaller version with her last name engraved on it at Bluestem for $100. Our City leaders look corrupt or like idiots! Take your pick.

Old & new together

I think if Mr. Anderson is willing to pay for improvements, we would be foolish to tear the Quonsets down. Some landscaping would also greatly help to blend in with the other elements at the Fairground. (Could the landscaping crew be people who are doing Diversion for Court Ordered community service?)

The community has had access to these buildings at little or no cost to the taxpayer. Are we prospering so well in this economy that we can throw away "paid for" facilities? Is that really progress?

And as I recall, in all fairness, there are several businesses west of Prairie that reflect some owner neglect and could use some TLC.

School Trial a Success

My daughter Brooke attended TPLC this year. Ginger Lewman is enthusiastic, caring and a motivator. It was refreshing for my daughter to be encouraged to think outside the box. Ginger's school utilizes innovative approaches to learning. Teaching comes naturally to her as she nurtures the mind AND spirit of your child. The month of May may ring the end of the school year for most teachers' involvement with their students but Ginger's oversight of your child's welfare continues on...

We need to support these kids. This generation will be deciding our future and the future of generations to come. Would we be so short-sighted to meagerly budget resources they need?? Would we ever dream of starving their bodies as traditional schooling now starves their minds???

If any parent feels their child could benefit from these services, they certainly owe it to their child to check out what TPLC has to offer. The traditional school system for my daughter's needs was so stagnant that we had nothing to lose and everything to gain this past year by trying out the Turning Point learning center. Need I say more?
