I live in the Denver area and there is a smoking ban here and it’s GREAT! We rarely ever ate out before because even in the non smoking sections of a restaurant the smoke still permeates and affected us. Now we eat out much more. Here in Denver restaurants can have covered patios for smoking. I see both sides in that a person can choose to work or dine where there is smoke if they choose but what if that is the only job someone can get then they have to breathe that wretched smoke all day at work. With my asthma I could not do it. Businesses are still packed here you still have to wait in line to eat out. I think it probably increased business I know a lot of people that go out more now that it’s non smoking. I took my kids bowling yesterday and we didn’t leave with our hair and clothing smelling like an ashtray it was great!

Emporia is blessed to have such a nice, FREE zoo for people to visit. It really makes me angry to know people would distroy something that is a gift to them from the community.

Thank you for your commitment to this memorial. When we drive the 8.5hrs to Emporia each summer to visit family the first thing (after seeing grandma and grandpa of course) our boys want to see is the All Veterans Memorial.

Orlando,
You brought back some memories of nursing school. I distinctly remember being trained to do back rubs in nursing school. Then I got into the real world and was so disappointed at my first nursing job in a hospital setting and realized that I was running my behind off and there was no time for backrubs and most nights I stood at the time clock at 11:30 pm filling out the little sheet of paper stating why I did not get a dinner break so that they would pay me for that time as well. Our ratio on the floor (not at Newman’s) was 8patients to me an LPN. Often we had 7 patients on the unit which would just be me. If we had 8 I got a CNA to help me. I will have been an LPN for 13 yrs this fall. I am not in the hospital setting anymore I do home care now which pays much better and I only have one patient.

It takes a very special person to be a "good nurse" I have worked with and been a patient with good nurses and bad nurses. It was the bad ones that drove me into the profession and because I always strived to be a good, happy smiling nurse when I was in the hospital setting my patients loved me and since I was in the rehab setting formed friendships with many that now 10yrs later still am in contact with some. I had patients that would request me when numbers were high and staffing was high enough that I had an RN on as charge nurse. Sometimes they would stick me with a perdium charge RN over me and I distinctly remember a patient named Maggie that the RN had assigned to herself and Maggie cussed the RN out of her room saying not to come back that she would only let me do her dressing change because I knew how to do it. That is continuity of patient care, knowledgeable staff.

The poor quality of care I saw last time I was at Newman’s, my grandma being the patient, was from the doctors not the nurses. The nurses were very kind to her the dr.s screwed up her care and now she is with the Lord and not with us any more.

Wow EHS you should be embarrassed by this incident. I remember many a waisted time at an athletic assembly "ra ra go Spartans....." do you think I got life long worth out of that? Of course not it just took time out of my academics, which should be the whole point of school. Now you have an educational worth while assembly and it was not a school wide function. You should be ashamed!

On High School assembly on drunken driving requires sign-up, excludes some students

Congratulations Mr. Harclerode! You were a very good teacher and I was very impressed that you remembered me when we bumped into each other at Staples last summer. It had been 13years since you had seen me and you still knew my name.
I am glad to see you honored.

Great Job Aldo in setting an example for other young people. It is good seeing a high school student setting goals and working toward them instead of the usual skate though school on easy classes and partying on the weekends. I wish you success in the future.

I don't think any of those would be reasons for docters to stay out of KS. For one Tiller is a murderer not a dr. The second dr you mentioned was doing illegal things and a dr. not planning on doing illegal things should not worry. and third I don't see what evolution and creationism has to do with whether a dr. wants to practice somewhere or not. I am a nurse in the medical field and I don't know how someone could study the human body and not believe in creationism.

Does KS not offer incentives to new docters? I have a friend that as soon as his residency was up he took a job in Cheyenne WY. The whole state of WY is considered rural and through some grant the grant paid off half of his school loans and the practice he went to work for paid off the other half. I would think offering school loan payments for a contract for a certain number of years of living in the state would be good. Or other incentives. I don't think any of the above items would phase anyone in my opinion. Unless you were a dr. going into the baby killing business or out with the intention of writing illegal prescriptions then sure pick another state.

I agree with heloves, totally with her comments as well. I had an amazing boilogy teacher who also believed in creation. Just because someone is in the medical field or sciences does not mean they believe all the fictional evololutionists stories. They may have actually STUDIED the body and creation and realized that evolution does not make much since.
