I couldn't figure out why Dryer's didn't sell to someone either. Apparently they weren't making any money or no one had the money to buy them out.

That's going to be GREAT for the city. I'm from a small town of 800. I remember going to the state tournament in football when I was in High School. Almost every business locked their doors and went.Small towns support their teams better than big cities, because everyone knows everyone. When you're from a small town and come to a place the size of Emporia you spend money, because there are no shoe stores, various restaurants, or practically anything, except a convenience store, bank and post office. Plus, more of those people will stay over night, than the people from Wichita, Topeka and K.C. I hope ESPI and the auditorium will have plenty of help to clean up after the big crowds that are sure to pack the place.

Sales taxes should be up quite a bit next month tho, with the "Cash for Cluckers" program. That should bring in a bunch of extra money that we wouldn't have had.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, because I heard Lyon Co. State Bank owns Marion Bank anyway.

be_fair........if you re-call, the city engineer is in trouble for the the same thing. If you have a crooked city engineer, that the city depends on to look after this type of thing, how can you blame the city for any wrong-doing.....other than hiring the engineer in the first place. The city itself, hasn't done anything wrong, in my opinion. Only time will tell, if these two individuals were in this together. If you or I stole 12,000 bucks, don't you think we'd be prosecuted?

How could it be an honest mistake, when one of the inspectors told the contractor to use them, when he discovered they weren't using them. And also the inspector told the city engineer, that they weren't being used. Is that what you call an honest mistake? I don't see how you can call this an honest mistake, when the inspector reported it to the city engineer and also told the contractor about it. The contractor knew full well that they were suppose to be used and still never used them after being told. He should have subtracted that amount from his bill to the city. If that isn't theft, I don't know what you would call it. The city engineer also knew that a change order had to be made, if they weren't going to use them, but never listened to his own inspector.

Well, I think that a visitors center and the monuments out by the turnpike is a heck of alot better idea than the stupid clock tower, (that you can't tell what time it is) that the last commission came up with.

I suppose Clean Air Emporia will be working with the feds now to get a flatulence tax past for all cattle and hogs a farmer owns.
