Empty lot gets new owner
Please let it be another Wendy's. Please let it be another Wendy's. Please let it be another Wendy's. Please....
My family and I ate there at the previous Wendy's often. The one out on Industrial is a poor excuse for a restaurant. Even for a fast food restaurant!!! JMHO

Sorry bluebonnet, but once HIS "genetic material" is in MY body and attached to MY womb, for ME to carry, then it becomes MY decision!! JMO.

Kansas towns invited to participate in Sunflower Parade
Why isn't Emporia in the parade? It's not too late. We could put a big ole rock on a trailer and haul it down the street. I'm sure once everyone sees our big rock, they will come to visit our fair city and spend lots of money. (Yeah, right.)

School day changes a serious issue
My kids live in the country. Their bus ride is almost an hour long. This proposed time change will totally disrupt our home life!!
If school started at 9:30, they wouldn't get on the bus until 8:30 or a little later. However our work starts at 8:00. Who's going to watch our kids for a half hour every AM?
Then if school gets out at 4:30 or so, they wouldn't get home until almost 5:30. That only gives us 3 hours together as a family every evening. And by the time you do homework, have dinner, do baths etc, there is no time left to just be a family!
Your argument about starting them earlier and getting on the bus in the dark, doesn't make sense because they would be coming home in the dark. So what's the difference? Also, if the younger kids have the most capacity to learn in the AM, why would you not take advantage of that?? JMO.

Emporia population falls by 1,844 people
I agree with TexasGirl. NRH does give really good care. I've had personal experiences with NRH and other area hospitals, and NRH had them all beat. I think NRH has been trying very hard to improve their reputation, but some folks just refuse to give them a shot. (No pun intended.)
And it's always the dis-satisfied customers you hear from, not the satisfied ones. Come on, give em a break!

Nation's health at risk with spending cuts
"Once you go to the ER (here in Emporia, anyway) and you cannot pay for your services, they have a chairty care form that can be filled out which pretty much eliminates your charges."
I wouldn't count on that happening. Not many patients actually qualify for charity care. You have to be very, very poor to qualify for this. Even college students that have no insurance usually do not qualify. Then NRH can AND will go after any funds they can. This includes college grants and loans, as well as income tax returns, alimony payments and even child support payments. Beware!!
And......before everyone starts "throwing stones", I know you should be responsible and pay what you owe. And there are a lot of folks out there that take advantage of situations or have no intention of paying for services. However, there are circumstances beyond our control and in a true emergency situation you really do need emergency care. But, it just seems to me if you really truly cannot pay, the hospital should not be able to take your college loan $ or child support $. That just seems wrong to me!!

Commission decides entrance monuments will be built
goodoleboy, Perhaps that is the real reason we need the big rocks. They're gonna use them to keep the big rigs from tipping clear over on the round abouts. LOL!!

City will plow, downtown cars need to move
castaway, Might I suggest you take all the snow and build a big monument. You can carve Emporia on it. Perhaps it will bring additional customers and/or tourists into town. ; )
