For your article on place names in Kansas, Smolan, Kansas is named for Smaland, Sweden. My greatgrandfather was the original settler and the namer of the town. The railroad wanted to name it Danielsonville after my Greatgrandfather, Johan Magnus Danielson, but Johan, being from Smaland,Sweden, prevailed.
