Out of the trenches

Happy New Year, all.

I thank you for the kind wishes.

I can assure you that I read Chris' column before it was published, and I take no offense at it.

I have a number of friends who have made the transition from newsrooms to public relations. All tell me that I will be amazed at the different pace in my new job.

On the other hand, I also know that I will have plenty of projects to keep me busy in my new job. The biggest difference is that, for the most part, the projects won't find me on nights and weekends.

I left The Gazette on Friday afternoon amidst hugs and tears. I enjoyed the last 17 years with my Gazette family, and I look forward to developing relationships at ESU.

1 girl dies after Mud-A-Thon accident

Our apologies, Alex, for the error about where you were when the accident occurred. Numerous people had told us what they saw, and we mistakenly believed both girls were in the pickup watching the competition.

That has been corrected in the follow-up story:

Witness says fiance told her he shot Flores

Sorry, gang. The earlier version of this story picked up the slug from the missing teen story. We fixed the problem by loading this story as a new document and deleting the old version. But that means your comments are gone, too. (I hate technology sometimes.)

Sports page outrage

NLCpride: Our sports editor is in St. Joseph, Mo., covering the Emporia State University women's basketball team making its own run to a national championship.

anonymous1: If we weren't going a run a game story two days after the game, why would we run the game story three days after the game? If you will pick up a print edition of Tuesday's Gazette and today's Gazette, you will see K-State sports stories in both papers. We do not, however, post them to our Web site.

So, unless you have a subscription, buy a copy on the newsstand or look at a print copy at the library, you'll never know what KU and K-State stories we put in our paper.

Sports page outrage

kuSportsPA: The KU story that ran in Monday's Gazette was a season recap. It was not a game story from Saturday's match-up against the University of Northern Iowa.
