Homemade breads from Kansas

Being Croation and having a Mother who grew up on Strawberry Hill, I have to let everyone know that the only "true" povatica is made of ground nut meats.
All those other fillings are just to make Americans interested. Also, the truly best purchased povatica comes from
Old Country Bakery located about a mi
west of Costco on 95th. It truly was served only at special occasions like holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Swafford bound over for trial

I am totally confused, also. It doesn't make sense. I've re-read the article 3 times. Mr. Calvert admits that he was drinking, went to the home with the intent to pick a fight and
harm Mr. Swafford. Mr. Swafford defends himself from attack
in his own home and he is the one arrested. There has
GOT to be more to this. We know Mr. Swafford should have
called 911 instead of grabbing a gun, but he was being attacked in his home!

Primary set for Mast's seat

Sorry, but Peggy is too right wing for me. Also, I received
a very sarcastic e-mail response from her when I was responding to an education issue she did not favor. I know
for a fact that at least one other teacher in Coffey County received the same response, so it must have been her "official" education response. Sorry, but Kitty Frank has 100% of my voter education support and my vote.

Daily Report

The reason could be because the Emporia Police sit outside
the bars and watch for people to get in their cars. Also, they
keep track of tags and car descriptions. I know these things for a fact from former policemen and bouncers, so please do not say they are not true.

Good causes

I've eaten there. The food is outstanding and you won't leave hungry! I think they use the proceeds to purchase school
supplies for the students at Reading Elementary. It's a
win-win situation.

I'm makin' the drive.

Sebelius remains in command of race

I agree. Why fix what isn't broken? Also, he picked a running mate who is easily recognizable as a extreme right Christian conservative. Not what Kansas needs.

Waverly clinches district championship

I was there that night cheering for the Lebo Wolves and they played a good game. I have every confidence that on another given night they have the talent and ablility to beat Waverly and maybe we will get the chance to....but if not I am not so stingy as to not wish Waverly good luck in the playoffs. Good luck to both teams!!!

Oppose proposals

I agree. It appears that this is just a ploy being promoted by the Emporia Chamber of Commerce to gain total control of the commission. I attended the League debates and as was pointed out, it is hard to see how hiring a manager and paying two more county commissioners is going to save money. Common sense says it will cost more and probably services to the outlying areas will be cut. Ever notice how the ditches around Emporia are mowed regularly, but my ditch outside one of the outlying towns is mowed once the entire year.

Waverly clinches district championship

I was there when Coach Jones was interviewed. It's to bad that the Gazette prints just the parts of the interview they want! Coach Jones's comment in the last of the interview was taken out of context! It makes it sound like he is trashing Waverly's defense, which I know he didn't!!!

Candidates answer questions

I attended the forum. Being a registered republican, I was very disappointed that Peggy Mast appeared to be tooting her own horn (at least two different times spent listing various committees she has served on) instead of being prepared to factually discuss issues and her votes.

I will be voting for Susan Fowler who seemed self-confident and willing to do her homework.
