Praise God for the veterans. Their sacrifices to our country and
its people have made posible the freedoms that we all so take
for granted. Lest we forget.

I've noticed on several occasions that not only is Ms. Nance lax
in her spelling and grammar, but she desperately fails to report
"both sides of the story". Perhaps time spent once again in
high school journalism classes would remedy this.

wanna make some more improvements to the course? Get
rid of that Williams fella who manages the grounds.

Praise for the Shriners more often. Stories such as this
certainly point out that they are not just "party animals and
drunks" as some have been led to believe. They are
individuals with enormously huge hearts.

I know. It's extremely hard to preform your job adequately
when you're riding in the supervisors hip pocket awaiting
the next opportunity to "suck up" in fear of losing your job.
Some superoiors thouroughly enjoy this, thus these actions
tend to put service to we the postal customers on the rear
burner. Too bad the Postal Service can't be rid of some
of this type of personnel, thereby allowing "good" employees
to take care of our needs and avoid unpleasant situations as
described in this article.

Indeed the Flint Hills sky is our prayerbook, the wind our
hymnals. The warmth of the sun on our face is the touch
of God. Our souls are restful.

gazettesux,
perhaps you missed the point entirely concerning this story.
In the first place, the writer reveals the item he is attempting
to repair as an item which once belonged to his father, and no
doubt held a great amount of sentimental value, Otherwise
why not just do as 95% of Americans do nowadays, throw the item away, hurry to the closet discount store and replace it
with an item that if their lucky may last 2-3 years. Regardless how many times the glass had to be correctly
measured in order to fit properly, the memories which that
particular item held for the author made the task worthwhile.
It's a shame that thus far during your dull and boring life
that you have never had any memories to treasure and
hold onto. The so called "CRAP" you refer to has certainly
provided hope throughout the past to individuals when they
are experiencing stressful times such as are occurring now.

You are absolutely right in your feelings Mr. Mercer in the
fact that everything was "cut and dried" so to speak. The
current city commission does not possess the ability to see
past the end of their noses nor think about present and
future benefits or pitfalls to Emporia. Someone has painted a
rosy picture and sold them a bill of goods whereby someone's
pockets may be further lined; perhaps maybe even some of
the current commissioners.
