Flu shot drive-through cancelled
Is this the standard of the same government wonks that want to control our health care from A to Z?

Train whistles
Hey Alex, you have simply been living too close to the tracks.
When we moved to town from the country, we lived in a house two doors south of the tracks on Merchant Street. For the first several months, the old steam locomotives kept us awake. However, we soon got used to it and didn't notice the noise at night. Then one night we woke up and realized there was a different noise coming from the tracks. The Santa Fe had switched to diesel engines. But again, after several months we could sleep thorugh that NEW noise.
Now real noise is living under the runway approach to a busy airport.

Recruitment showing progress at Newman
After Roy Mann has filled up the hospital with young well-qualified doctors, which he will in short order, Emporia should use his talents to recruit other professionals. Pick the areas of experience and expertise you want to bring into the City and Roy can probably accomplish that task for you.

Elmdale residents question ministry
Before the residents of Elmdale go too far in their negative attitudes with regard to the proposed use of their old school building, they should take a Sunday afternoon drive up to Dunlap and check out the "positive" impact the old Dunlap school building has on that community.

Cummins Memorial Library
I wonder how many Emporia residents realize what a treasure the City has in Cheryl Unruh. If she isn't, she should be teaching prose at ESU.

Zoning commission votes down Lowe's proposals
Did the Zoning Commissioners give any reasons for their various votes? If so, why were those reasons not reported in the article? If not, how can they claim government in the sunshine?

If I had my way
As I recall, the old KP&L had a power substation located at Teterville. The only KP&L employee that I know is still living that could give you more information is Gene Daharsh (sp ?) who was the store keeper in Emporia when I was a kid working there.

Flyover People
When I read "where she's at" I thought: "What the heck, "my friend and me" seems to be acceptable today, why not "where she's at."

Wow. Cheryl has hit another home-run. Half way through the article I could smell the saw dust.

Landlords, money and politics
As a consultant to municipalities across the country, I have noticed a shared characteristic. The quality of a City's residential rental stock is directly related to the quality of the main street business buildings. That is, when the leadership of a muncipality tolerates residential slum-lords it will also tolerate commercial slum-lords. As I drove down Commerical Street during my last visit to Emporia, it was evident that Emporia has a thriving residential slum-lord contingent that probably also controls City hall. However, it should be noted that this blight on Emporia's growth potential is no different than what existed some fifty years ago when I was growing-up in a falling down rental house "south of the tracks."
