It seems to me that everything in Emporia is being canceled this year.

I agree 100%! I think a $500 fine for not mowing grass is absolutely insane. I, too, can't stand to see a lawn that is growing tall, but I think $500 is a little out of control. In the 6 years I have been in Emporia, I have only seen the plows out about 3 or 4 times. The legal system in Emporia seems to be a little off. The police will pull over a person who drives through the Walmart parking lot to avoid a light, yet a bunch of kids can race up and down 6th street every evening endangering far more people without getting ticketed!

Before commenting, I must say that I have not read Dr. Barnett's article. I have had 2 babies at Newman and must say that the experience was more than I could have ever imagined. The nurses were awesome. They really paid attention to detail and treated me like a person not just another patient that they had to care for. The hospital provides a free and excellent lactation consultant. Many hospitals either don't offer this or offer it at a very high price. I will always choose to have my babies at Newman because of the excellent care that I have already experienced.

I will be at the next meeting. I believe in investing in our community, but I think that our commissioners are investing money in the wrong places if we truely want Emporia to grow.
