Sound Off - Proposed liquor legislation

On a more local level...

How about allowing liquor sales on Sunday and letting liquor stores stay open past 9:00 pm?

What an outdated, completely ridiculous, backwards, retarded law.

Worth a Try

Didn't think it was possible to spend less money on the Emporia fireworks show.

253 Board to discuss Lowthers

I'm not sure some of you understand the real reason the schools are being closed.

Money. Not condition of the schools.

The costs of running the two Lowthers compared to what the costs will be with the 5th graders in the elementary schools and 6th graders in the middle school is significantly higher. Consolidating schools will save the district substantial amounts of money in the long run.

It's a no-brain decision and probably should have been done some time ago, rather than renovating and reopening the two Lowther buildings in the 90s.

2010 Primary Election Returns

Heffington should receive ZERO votes. She makes Sam Brownback look like Ted Kennedy.

Chicken Mary’s

Anyone who says they prefer Olpe Chicken House over Chicken Marys/Annies clearly has never had Chicken Marys/Annies.

There truly is no comparison.

A policy of neglect

Definitely received a citation a few years back for having indoor furniture on the deck. Pretty silly considering the condition of the house and surrounding buildings. The sofa wasn't hurting anything nor was it an eye sore to anybody--the house was the problem and the fact that it was firmly implanted in the student ghetto. Eff off city.

Respect, courtesy and recognition

Eaglefan

I graduated not too long ago and heard air horns for plenty of white students. Your comment is stereotypical and unfair. Horns are obnoxious at such events... But for some families, it's just that big of an occasion. You can always tell who was expected to graduate by the lack of applause and noise.

Not worth the debt

The field is worth it, but home football games need to be held at Emporia High. Stop leasing Welch -- that will save some money and make the artificial-grass investment seem more logical.

Everyone who disagrees with me is wrong. :)

Spend money to save money

What you red-coats don't understand about the proposed new facilities is that they will actually save the school money in the long run. That is the whole point of energy efficiency. There is virtually no upkeep for artificial grass and within 15-20 years, it will pay for itself. No watering needed, no regular painting, etc.

I am sure that many numbers were crunched and that this decision was not made lightly. Personally, I have faith in the school board and superintendent.

So, relax. It's not like they're spending $6 million on building an evolution exhibit.
