Ok. If you want Big or Carrie Underwood look at www.ksexpo.com . Or maybe we could look at something in between. Its not the size of the Expo but the concept.

Yes, comparing the White Auditorium to the Claremore Expo is like comparing our "Multi-Million Dollar" Courthouse to the courthouse on Andy of Mayberry. The location is not ideal and the parking is atrocious. Claremore is a town of a little over 17000 people and the Expo there brings in over 100,000 visitors a year to Claremore, along with their money. Since opening in 1999 their attendance to events and the revenue to the city and county has grown. From 2004 to 2005 attendance grew almost 10% and these people shop, book hotels, eat and leave tax revenue. We have to start thinking out of the box and not depend on our residence to catch us up financially. An expo would also not compete, but help the downtown merchants. They would be able to advertise at the expo and sponser events. Keep an open mind and lets send our development folks to Claremore for a look. It's close and they might learn something.

Anyone interested in bringing outside money into Emporia and sales tax revenue into Emporia instead of from its residence should take a look at this website. Claremore is a small town in Oklahoma with an expo center that brings in all kinds of events and revenue to this small town. Emporia's Development Committee should look at the 30 acres at the corner of Graphic Arts Road and Hwy 50. What a great location for such an Expo Center. Half way between Wichita and Kansas City and just off the turnpike. They should look at a bond issue for such a development. I believe the community would be behind such a development and Emporia could host larger events and bring much needed revenue into the community. Check it out. www.claremoreexpo.com We need to grow our community from the outside in.

Yes, bravo to the good guys. But, they spent Thousands of our tax dollars and put how much property and people in danger all to catch a guy celebrating his birthday who was guilty of a couple of traffic violations. I mean, gee, they admit having his tag number and identifying him on facebook. They knew who he was and where he lived. Why spend all that money for helicopters, dogs and 4 police departments when they could have easily just waited and gone and picked him up. Sounds like overkill to me. They admitted that they thought he was heading home, which he did and they didn't get him anyway. He turned himself in. Maybe their testosterone and the hope of getting on TV's Cops got the better of them. Yes, Horray for the Good Guys. Wisely spending our tax dollars.

Emporia should pass a no pit bull ordinance like they have in other cities and or force the owners of these animals to have a $500,000 liability insurance. This has worked in other cities. It is obvious that something needs to be done before a child is seriously injured or killed.

Why was the University Inn targeted? What about all of the abandoned mobile homes in Heartland Park with windows out and doors open? Children play in these and it is very dangerous. Should Heartland Park receive citations for these?

If the city needs more revenue they should look at bringing in more outside revenue. They should look at a bond issue to fund a convention center. A multi use convention center like the one in Claremore, Oklahoma would bring in many events and money into the community. There is now a 30+ acre track off of Graphic Arts Road that would be a perfect location and right off the turnpike for easy access for events. They should look to anywhere else instead of only talking about the residents of Emporia footing the bill with more and more taxes to burden already hurting residence.

The residence of Heartland Park are now being charged a $4.51 per month administration fee on their water bills each and every month in addition to the cost of the water and sewer. This I was told is a contractual fee they have with Heartland Park and is being passed on the the residence who already pay taxes in the city of Emporia and wages to city employees to read water meters.

I think they call that the theory of Rockets and Feathers. When oil prices goes up the gas rockets up. When the price of oil goes down the gas prices float down slowly.
