When most folks are happy to have a job and raises are 1 or 2 % if at all, voting a 15% pay raise is absolutely wrong. Thanks goodness we have new leadership coming in - it is exactly this type of thought that has Lyon County in the condition it is in.

I don't think anyone could have predicted this downturn last spring, and the price of oil didn't peak until July. Even though I have a contract with S&S, I don't feel like I'm being gouged. They offered to let us contract early and pay over a longer time period to help ease the financial burden. Stuff happens and we just need to get over it.

I agree, now let's get term limits in place so we can get rid of career politicians.

I agree with you Patrick. Lets not forget that folks over there used to kidnap foreigners and behead them for the internet audience. Having a shoe tossed can be laughed at.

Hopefully the petitions will be circulated so those that live out of the city can find one and sign it.A vote of the citizens is exactly what is needed on this one. With the many "real" problems folks face in todays life and economy, this trivial action needs to be set aside.

I agree totally that we need to re-invest in passenger rail service expansion. AMTrak works well on the East coast due to the relatively short travel distances and the population density, but the model doesn't work here. On many occasions I have looked at rail as an alternative to flying to the east or west coast for business. Unfortunately the cost is more than twice that of a flight and the time to get there goes from 4 hours to 2 days. Even with that said, wouldn't it be great to hop on the train in Emporia and go to KC or Oklahoma City for the afternoon?

Patrick there is a big difference in the expectations held for this President-elect than any other in history. The media in the US made the citizens that voted for him believe that Sen. Obama would end all their ills, heal all their wounds, and provide for them. In all the years since Nixon was President, I don't recall such a betrayal of trust in truth as we have seen in the past 2 years while Obama pulled it off while the press refused to even look into his background. While I do not believe in conspiracy theories, I do belive the media conspired to create the 100 day expectations that Obama and you are now saying are too high. Darn it, it's too late, the uneducated masses that voted for him will soon learn what they bought is not what they wanted. Any discomfort that comes from this let down will, of course, be missing from press coverage until it can no longer be denied. At that moment, with the Democratic party at the helm and the press in the bunker, the common folks will still be broke and hungry and there will be no George Bush to blame any longer.

where do these loonies get born? Obama is the most liberal member of congress and the far radical left helped him send Hillary home. He has BIG debts to pay to big labor, gay rights and the environmental wackos. The next 4 years is going to be one stick in the eye after another to the other half of the US - he won, but with no mandate. Be prepared to have any opinion that does not agree with their agenda be vilified.

Chris I agree with "make it in the USA" but the production of batteries has some significant health, safety and environmental issues that tag along. Heavy metals never go away, they just make folks sick, so if we can get that piece done, make them here.
