I remember Dr Coldsmith as a gentle and patient,Dr who had a caring bedside manner, which is hard to find these days.He will truely be missed but not forgotten.

just the facts,,obviously YOU dont know the facts...Some of the Dr's ARE the problem. And you cant please all the ppl all the time..there are those who are gonna complain and bitch no matter what you do or how they are taken care of.But, you will never convince me that just because you have several letters after your RN,that you can care for a patient any better than any other nurse.I would lay money down that a patient cannot tell the difference in the care they receive from a diploma/degree nurse.

If you really WANTED to get to know your staff better, you'd be out on the floor working, side by side with them,Not sitting behind some new desk pushing papers. 1 or 2 days,in scrubs, not a 3 piece suit, out on the floor seeing first hand how hard we DO work, will not put you behind and your schedules, and meetings will not suffer. As for the Directors of floors,I DO see "some" of them actually giving a damn about their staff, and others, dont care anymore,What kind of LEADERSHIP is this,Julie? I think first we need to see some CARING qualities from our LEADERS.

What about that Julie,,,would you be able to "function" as a floor nurse now??? You have all those letters after your RN,,so that is suppose to make you more professional, well then,,,,lets see it,,,,Id like to see you take 6 patients, pass all their meds,,answer call lights, walk your patients, check your orders on your charts, make rounds with your Dr's perhaps do an admission/dismissal and do all your charting,
And keep that turned up mouth,as you want us to do!!!!!!!! I'd like to "CHALLENGE" you to do this...whatya say????

I think NRH is making a huge mistake getting rid of the LPN's.They are some of the hardest working ppl we have on staff. But,we werent even included in the decision making process. Its no wonder Stormont Vail has such of small turnover,,they actually LISTEN to their nurses and do all they can to make the staff happy instead of belittling them and telling them they arent professional enough.

Im an RN at NRH and I used to love going to work, taking care of my patients, getting to know them, and at the end of my shift I felt like I had made a difference in at least one life. Now there is no time to even carry on a conversation with one single patient,We are so understaffed, that some days it is very critical and dangerous,But the all mighty administration cant see beyond the pencils they are pushing. Our new Nursing Director wants to "Empower us and Challenge us to do the very best we can. I myself find this VERY challenging when we are so understaffed that our patients have to wait for their call lights to be answered because their nurse has 6 other patients to care for.BUT YET they are closing the very unit that is overflowing with patients and understaffed.
I dont see any of the ADM.taking On calls, getting their hrs cut,.Its all very sad and depressing. Our ESU student nurses dont even want to stay and work at NRH,and do you blame them.??
Its time for the Adm to pull their heads out and see what actually matters.its not letters behind RN,its not changing the scrubs to "make us more professional" If we arent already professional, the clothes we wear isnt gonna make a damn bit of difference..
When P.Taylor was our Director of Nursing, she took the time to come to each and every floor, and actually "Work",help out when needed,We have yet to see our new Director of Nursing WORK a day on the floor,,perhaps because with all those letters behind her RN she has forgotten how to even do patient care..I CHALLENGE her to show us what she knows about patient care!!!!!!!!!!!! ,

In regards to gardenman,,there are also fine outstanding nurses at NRH,I only saw 2 who were sitting at the nurses desk "chatting" while all the others were answering call lights and tending to their patients. But I know it only takes 1 or 2 to "spoil" the entire bunch. So my hat goes off to the "other" nurses on 2nd floor for their caring and committment .Keep up the good work, you are needed and appreciated!!!!!

With all the talk about the administration...why is there NOT a zero tolerance for the type of "bashing" that goes on there? Evidentally from emporian2008,I am not the only one who recognizes that there is a "problem" that exists. There was absolutely NO PROFESSIONALISM displayed on Wed at the nurses desk.I saw the other nurses working that day, with the exception of the two at the desk.I was under the impression that nursing was a TEAM effort..?????

I continually hear how understaffed the hospital is. I can now see why, My sister is a patient on 2nd floor,I went to the desk just yesterday (Thurs) to ask the nurse in charge a question.I had to almost fight to get a word in,as she and another nurse were in a heated discussion about yet ANOTHER NURSE.I stood and listened until she even acknowledged I was there. With the nursing shortage, why in the world would you bash the people you work with. Come on girls,GET A CLUE!!
