Monuments put on hold

I don't know about the rest of you folks, but the last time we moved the first thought through my head was that where ever we moved, there must be entrance monuments announcing the city's name and welcoming us before I would move there. AaronSewell, what a crock!! If the powers that be have a hole burning in their pockets to spend that money, then clean up the parks, plant flowers, trees, etc....put planter boxes at the corners of the main streets as they intersect.....beautify the town, but monument stones are not the way to do it.

I've thought of the family often, even though I don't know the Jenkins/Yeager families. Hopefully, they will find this little angel and bring closure to the family. Many condolences.

What a shame. Like many, I enjoyed his comments on here. I never post much, a tad bit intimidated by all the knowledge that is shared on these blogs. RIP, Biscuit....another angel looking down on us. For Biscuit's family, my sincere condolences.

Police investigating Burger King robbery

Re-read the article. They Lyon County SHERIFF's dept showed up to ASSIST at 4:49. Because Burger King is within the city limits, the Emporia Police Dept would have responded first.

Hospital trustees discuss strategic plan

I don't dare to know what needs to be done to make Newman's a decent hospital, or if it could even be done at this point. Newman's has been a joke of a hospital for a long time. The last time I went there for a horrendous abdominal pain, I was told that I was having a "flare up" of my ulcerated colitus. After explaining to the nurse/doctor that this pain was in no way connected to my colitus, I was given a shot of morphine and sent home, being told that I had a bladder infection. After 4 days of intense pain, my doctor finally admitted me and after performing surgery, found my appendix was gangrene and rotting inside my body. Granted, I moved away so have not had a need for Newmans, but if I still lived there it would be a cold day in **** before I went there. It's a shame that there's a hospital right there in town, and most people would rather travel outside of Emporia for medical treatment. Shame, shame, Newmans!!!

Sirens sound for sudden storm, but few hear them

If you're unable to watch the sky, then that is why you should be listening to the TV or radio/weather radio.

Did someone actually say they called 911 cause they couldn't hear the sirens? Way to go!!! Hope they weren't too busy answering your call and couldn't answer the call where someone's life depended upon it!!
