Emporiateacher / lifeGoesOn--If noticed at the City Commision meeting , for the zoning change. The only ones, besides the retailers that had to compete with this developement, that spoke against the zoning change lived on Willow Lane and Apple Dr. Most of the rest of Emporia is for this new developement.

Bob
I agree with letsmoveforward that you need to spend the time you are fighting this issue, with improving your store. You need to move on. I'm sure that a man in your position has more to do than reading blogs. You need to move on.

I think that they did listen to Roy Johnson. He one of the most respected, elder persons that I know in Emporia. He has spent his whole life caring about Emporia and the people that live here.

The 1st time one of our kids get run over by all that extra traffic that I keep hearing about, that will be a problem. From what I read there will be more than just a Lowes store.

What route would the residents living in the North section of Emporia take? This the area in Becker/ Apple Dr./Timmerman area. And also I'm sure that if you are near Walmart you won't be getting back on the Interstate to go to Lowes. 24th is the best location. I can not believe that anyone would even suggest building this large commercial developement across the street from 2 schools that house more than 1/2 of Emporia students not counting the Vo-Tech school. Again get real!!!

There is currently no exit off I-35 that goes directly to this area. You would have to take the round-about off 35and get off on 50 and then take Grapic Arts back to the area across from the schools. If you are shopping in the area around Walmart or the area that Mr. Symmonds is suggesting, I wonder which route 95% of people would take. I'm sure that it would be down 18th in front of the schools. I'm sure Mr. Symmonds would take 24th and turn on Graphic Arts and then pass thru 2 school zones. Get real.

The distance is not 1/4 mile but 1 mile. I can not believe that you or anyone would suggest putting the large commercial developement across from the 2 schools on Grapic Arts. There is also a large housing developement across the street to the North. The traffic from Industrial shopping area would have to drive by one or both of the schools to get from one to the other. 24th is the only area that makes since for this developement.

To me this area near 24th is the best spot. We don't have a fraction of the traffic on this 3 block strip that is on Wannamaker in Topeka or 119th in KC. The Planning Commission is wanting the builder to build across from our schools on Graphic Arts. And also how will the traffic get from Industrial to Graphic Arts. The only way is going right by both the schools out there. The Planning Commission sure dropped the ball on this one. I can't believe anyone will support putting a Lowes across the street from our schools. What a mess that would be.

On Zoning commission votes down Lowe's proposals

Can someone tell me when the last time a tax dollar has been spent to maintain the hospital??
Why did we need to spend have to spend over 600 grand for the extension office. When we were sold on the new court house we were told by our then comissioners that the extension office would be moved to the old court house after it was remodeled. The cost of the remodeling would be paid in part by the sale of the old extension office. Our politicians seem to to think that we will forget what is told us one year and spin a new twist later. It just seems funny that we had all kinds of money last year and now this year we are broke. Get real!!!!

On Commissioner Davis warns of cuts without sales tax

Since when has tax dollars ever been used to support the hospital??? I think as a county commisioner Mr. Davis needs do be better informed on how money is spent in the county. He sure thought we had enough money last year to buy the old Jonh Deere building at above apraised value and spent several hundred thousand dollars on renovations. This building was also taken of the tax roles after the county purchased it.
It looks to me like the county needs to quit the foolish spending as they have been doing recently and live within their means and quit threatening the citizens with tax cuts that have nothing to do with the butget. Besides in 4 years the new 330 milion dollar Westar plant will be on the tax roles which should result in a large tax decrease. Mr. Davis you need to wake up.
