WOW! Bash the police for catching some car theives and recovering somebodies property. Chases aren't fun and like I've said before, we cannot allow people to elude the police. Law enforcement will be inefective to the community and then you'll wine about that. Sounds to me like they made good decisions and acted appropriately. You'd be suprised how much due regard goes in to ALL the decisions made by the police during a chase. And finally, if they wanted to be glorified and put in the spot light, they wouldn't be beat cops, they'd be polititions. If you have any questions about the chase, call the Sheriff, he's a politition. He'll tell you what you want to hear and make you feel good about yourself.

wearp45, do you really think that what you see printed in the Gazette is the entire case? Come on, think about it. We give them enough information that makes people like you wonder what the heck is going on... and give you a platform to criticize fine police work. You call it fishy, we call it good police work and since this is not my case I am not at liberty to give you any more details then you have read, but I will tell you that our video camera is an invaluable tool that juries love to watch... Enjoy your freedom of speech, and next time you want to criticize, exercise your 5th Amendment right to shut up... I tried to sugar coat that as best I could. Oh, one more thing, for the person that made the comment about the ESU police, without him, this case would probably not have worked out in our favor. We all have our roles in life, and he went above and beyond his role to help us out, especially when he didn't have to put himself in harms way. He deserves a pat on the back, not a punch in the gut.

It sounds to me like some people on here are either neive or stupid... I am not for sure which. Hunting a person, like hide and seek is one thing, but hunting a person who may want to kill you is another. Law enforcement is guided by policy, has rules to follow, orders to obey, and tactics to use. Unfortunately, criminals do not. The advantage is overwhelmingly not in our favor. You can sit there and say we should have found him, we are covering something up, and we are up to no good... The fact of the matter is, he failed to yield to an emergency vehicle and that is something that we cannot take lightly nor allow. The ONLY person who put anybodies life in danger or damage to property, was the driver. If law enforcement used a blanket no chase policy, how effective would law enforcement be and how safe would you feel at night snuggled up with your family knowing we are out there and unable to effectively protect and serve YOU. Law enforcement will just be used to take reports after the fact and sit in the office and type them. NO, we, did NOT positively know who was driving, we knew who the vehicle was registered to, big difference. And, no, we did not know what crime he had committed, was being committed, or was about to be committed. So arm chair quarterback this all you want, and try and blame the police again, when actually, there were 4 departments that pooled valuable resources and worked together as a team. All in all, it was a good night, nobody got hurt, and the bad guy was caught. Don't worry, we know this is a thankless job... Sleep tight, time for work.

Personally, I feel if your truely have a bitch about something and hide behind your anonymity, you don't have a bitch at all. On the other hand, if you back up your complaint with your name and reputation, then you truely have the right to express your issue.

If I was not clear about my issue, let me spell it out... Employees are NOT managed, they are lead. I am very confident that some of the employee who have left and some current employees would say that the micromanagement of the department is crushing the morale of the employees. Giving people the power to supervise and failing to let them do so is a management issue, and a poor one at that. Give your supervisors direction, and let them surprise you with the outcome. Let them lead their people to accomplish your goals, not arm chair quarterback every situation to check their progress.

These comments have grabbed the attention of management at the SO and they to have to use anonymity to give their "reason" for the issues. I can take those same numbers and give you a completely different outlook as to the percenage of turnover rate and for what reason.

Like I said before, you can only grade your leaders by asking the ones who they lead. No number is going to justify poor leadership or rationalize certain situations especially if you have to claim the fith amendment as to who you are.

I am cepperly, and that is how I see it. I don't care if you like it or not, its my opinion, not yours.

On Lyon County sheriff's race

Posted on May 15 at 10:55 a.m.

Here is something to think about... If we overloaded the courts with those "petty" offenses, the diversion fund would drastically increase and our current CA has a very good track record to put that money back into the community, mainly funding law enforcement equiptment that would normally go unfunded. Kudos to the CA for taking an active role in law enforcement, not just prosecution.

If the courts become overloaded, that is a judicial branch issue that they need to resolve, not law enforcement. We cannot hold the Sheriff responsible for that problem. Having supervisors on the road with very little experience, is a problem. Having supervisors that manage their people and not lead them, is a problem. The SO had and still has some very good deputies that want to work hard for the community, but are driven down by poor supervision. The jail staff again has some poor supervision and the jailers have nothing to work for since the Sheriff is not putting his own people on the road as deputies. Sounds like more deputies are "looking" elsewhere, so there maybe even more positions to fill. Dispatchers are even leaving. Again, I think management has to hold some type of responsibility for this max exodus of personel. Fortunately, this is all happening in an election year and putting a huge spotlight on the situation.

Make sure you get out and vote. Heck, write people in if you don't like who is on the ballet. XLY10, I'm writing you in buddy... You were a truly respected supervisor who knew how to treat your people.

OK, maybe not Joe Arpaio. That would shock and awe everybody to quickly. Neighbor, your right... I guess decriminalization is the way to go. What was I thinking... my bad. I guess that is why I am not in politics.

Unfortunately, I still enjoy what I am doing and I hardly think I have a political personality, but thanks for the vote of confidence. Personally, I am a big fan of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, in Maricopa County, Arizona. Somebody should give him a call and see if he will run, that is what this community needs. 1-800-352-4553.

I agree with your concerns neighbor, but unfortunately that is how to effectively fight crime. After all, we (the community) want PRO ACTIVE law enforcement, not always RE ACTIVE law enforcement. It all starts with good leadership. The only people that can grade a leader are those who he leads. So, everbody outside the box has to read between the lines. Several years of experience has left the agency and one has to ask, why? Who knows, maybe these officers all of a sudden became poor officers and had to leave. It is interesting how some have been hired by other Law Enforcement Agencies so quickly... I'm not really sure how to interperet that.

I think its time for a younger, more motivated, pro active law enforcement officer to be the top cop... But, is Lyon County ready to accept that. There are serveral other LEO's qualified to run the SO, the fact of the matter is Lyon County needs to be ready for a drastic change to law enforcement in the now. The deputies and jailers at the SO need to be LED, not MANAGED. Subordinates are led; supplies, bullets and money are managed. Leading by example will work wonders in building moral.

Just to let everyone know, that we recieved ANOTHER email and there will be more law enforcement precense there. Unfortunately, this pulls us off of other high priority areas such as the turnpike construction. Its only a matter or time before we have a major pile up there. Everybody just drive carefull and never have the mindset the other driver sees you.
