Congratulations on an award well deserved. It's nice to see that small schools have great things happening in them. It's especially nice to see awards given out for education, not just athletics.

Yes the visibility on a gravel road is always questionable. Doesn't that warrant more cautious driving practices. Vanderman was clearly on the wrong side of the road. That is where the trucks collided and stayed. Ask anyone that was at the scene. He was on the wrong side of the road.
People should slow down and think while driving.

Rork was 90 minutes late for court! Was he fined by the court for his inconsideration? What a terrible deal for the victims family to be put through. Maybe Rork should apologize to the family and pay them restitution.

I don't know if there will ever be closure for the families involved, especially for the Williams family who has lost a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend because of someone who was in to big of a hurry to drive safely. Anyone with a lick of sense would know not to pull out and pass another vehicle when visability is hindered. This "accident"was almost 2 years ago. What adds to this tragedy is that it has taken the court system this long to get anything done. To bad the State wouldn't work harder to make the felony charges stick and take to trial a long time ago. Yes it was an accident, but there should be consequences to "accidents" that are caused by careless and irrespondsible decisions. I hope Vanderman gets the maximum penalty.

Judge Jones in principled and ethically grounded. He is a good choice for the district bench.

On Ku Klux Klan

If you talk with long-standing members of the Valley Falls Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, you'll be told that the KKK was responsible for burning the church in the 20s. They will always point out that it was never investigated because the KKK had infiltrated the city establishment.
For a time the state-wide Klan newspaper was printed in Neosho Rapids before relocating to Wichita. The KKK held it's state conference in September of 1923 in the brand new Broadway Hotel (Towers today). In 1924, W. A. White ran as an independent for governor to denounce the Klan.

The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks hate groups. Today Kansas has seven.

What constitutes smoking? Can you burn cigarettes without inhaling through the lips in an establishments. Would this be an act of civil disobedience? Should it be illegal for the Catholic Church to burn incense? I know these are wacky questions but this is a wacky issue.
