I wouldn't call a team (Augustana) that is 6-2 and ranked fifth in their region a cupcake.

Is it just me or is it only stories about ESU sports that get the chopped off in the on-line edition?

Augustana is a D2 team that played in the NCC last year. The league that was considered as good or better than the MIAA before it disbanded after five teams moved up to D1

hornet2003 - those may be the best two posts I have ever read about ESU football on this site.
And thank you for the part you played in Mineral Water Bowl and MIAA Championships for the Hornets.

bob what are you talking about? ESU had the best all around athletic department in the MIAA last year and was 11th in the nation. Softball NCAA runners-up for the second time in three years, women's basketball MIAA champs and go to the Sweet 16, baseball wins the MIAA championship, men's basketball makes their first ever appearance in the MIAA Tourney championship game, men's and women's track both finish in the top 20 nationally, the volleyball team is #15 in the nation. Who are you comparing the ESU Athletic PROGRAM to? Washburn that finished 37th in the nation overall? Ft. Hays that finished 104th overall? Pitt State that was 106th overall?

I'll bet if you took out all those ESU games that are played in February and March the average would be a lot higher. The games that I went to in April and May seemed like a lot more than 250 people. But I still don't think minor league or semi-pro baseball would work here. I don't think any of the cities you mentioned also have a D-II college baseball program in town as well.

Tail lights headed for Wichita or Topeka"
You do know that even with the new Sales Tax in Lyon County that Topeka has a higher sales tax rate than Emporia (7.45% to 7.3%).
