Exactly the reason we are not long for Emporia.
We don't live above our means nor do we covet material things. However, despite pretty good insurance, our daughter's 3 major hospitalizations in her first year of life have taken away our safety net and we cannot stay with the one good salary that's coming in.

Momus,
My neighborhood is an older one, with horrendeous sidewalks, or no longer existant ones as they have eroded away, or weeds have overtaken them. Let's indeed focus on what we have and make them usable.

When, pray tell, might some of these improvements happen in established neighborhoods? It'd be nice to take my children for a walk without feeling like I'm off-roading the stroller, or having to go in the street due to lack of sidewalks?

Lighten up. I'm glad to know who to look out for to maybe get some scum off the streets. But come on, if you can't try to find a little humor in life, that's pretty sad.

Davis said some beautification has been done on the grounds.
Please tell me he's kidding.

And exactly how is Sara Lee part of Pepsi/Frito-Lay? If it isn't, my money is on the deal not happening. The head guy is only looking to line the pockets of his Pepsi-Frito-Lay buddies.

Does anyone else think the smart thing for the city to have done was sit quietly issuing violations and then collecting the fines. If it sits long enough, I'd bet the city's money woes could have a dent made in them. I don't think it's much more of an eyesore than the many many homes in a state of blight the city doesn't address.
