Supporting the monuments

Tonights front page about our school children going hungry is perfect example to prove to the commissioners that our money should have been better spent. How about asking these children that go to bed hungry which they would prefer, after all they are our future and should also have a say.
How about etching under the word "welcome" , the home of hungry school children. Now that would attract your tourists attention I bet.

Defending the Monument

Whoa Nellie, I think someone just hit a nerve? Guess they are taking this personal or they are family to one of the cities ranch hands. I don't think TELL will be joining us in our posse. To bad, they must have kept their head under a rock not to see the light of day.

Defending the Monument

Dear Commissioners, "HERE"S YOUR SIGN" that the citizens are getting ready to run you out of town, or least your commission seats. You're taxing the life out of us, so are the tombstones a reminder to all of us that these may be our final days? I think Zimmerman may not be the brightest crayon for thinking we were going to want to keep him on OUR payroll and waste OUR hard earned tax dollars without sending him on to be someone else's problem. It's round up time and the locals aren't going to lay low and let you run OUR town to the ground. I hope you didn't expect to put any of YOUR SIGNS in our yards for re-elections. If you do we will be expected to be compensated for the use of OUR yards. You know what they say, when it rains, it has to go somewhere, even if it's down the sewer.

Sister Theresa why haven't you yet figured it out that we do no need you to take care of us or our families health let alone our local business people who are trying to make a living and take care of their own families. Your nose is so not wanted to make all of you pretty people be noticed. We already know who you are and frankly you aren't that cute and you aren't that popular with the real home fokes of Emporia. Francis was a man that gave us all more than we could eat at Wendy's and never disclosed the fat grams. I never saw a no smoking sign in his window. It was just understood by us stupid people that he didn't have to SPELL IT OUT like you do. you didn't complain about how much we contributed to his business, so why are you so compelled to care about us now? Lets relive when he was on the commission, did he have any concerns about smoking bans? not. You may have been elected to sit on the county commission, but I challange you to go to your rural communities and ask the farmers and ranchers to put out their butts on their properties. I am just guessing but you will probably be escorted out by a mule, as that would be fitting coming from a family that provides for their family. Did you get it yet. We don't care what you think. Shut up and pay attention.

Yes Doug, Saint Theresa has come to rescue all of us that have sinned. Her crusade has saved us all from all of our concerns and fears of job losses, and the silly little problems with the economy. They are nothing compared to the tobacco concerns that effect us much more than the media issues. I think we should all trust that she has a plan to save us all and pray that she delivers. I don't think we should let all of the worlds woes be more important than making everyone believe this is God's plan for her to save us from ourselves. I know our men and women in combat will be happy to hear that she hasn't requested a no smoking ban for them "until they are able to return home", then I suppose she will start with them next. Who cares how much it cost to heat our homes it's worth paying high heat bills so we don't pollute anyone's air. And the city would love to fine us for not mowing our lawns in the sake of the Theresa law. Come on people, it's time we stick our noses into her private business and see what she has to repent for.

Group says Emporians want smoking ban

Hello Theresa, I would like to thank you Bobbi for looking after my well being to make sure I am not submitted to second hand smoke. I remember when the Santa Fe was running this town and supplied a lot of jobs, now I only see them pass through. Emporia wants new businesses and out of town shoppers to come here so we can reap from their dollars, well little girls, it doesn't work that way. You can't have it both. People have the right to make choices and you want to make them for them or should I say us, as in me. I have never been insulted by any business in Emporia that had to post a sign of politically correct non smoking. As adults we know what is expected and do not need you to police us. How did you respond to the fat grams in a Wendy/s hamburger? You were wiling to sell them fat grams that you didn't care about and could be considered money before fat or health, but you nor Francis changed your menu for the sake of children. Don't you think you should let the commissioners do their jobs and you both just get one that none of us care what it is rather than parading your cause of "makes me feel good" all over the town? I have children,7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, but most importantly lived most of my life in Emporia and have never been so insulted that you think you should be the voice of me or my family. Get a job with benefits unless you don't need the money, and yes, I still work full time because I need insurance benefits, but not your's. Not your friend of choice.

Charges filed against Swafford

Until you walk in his or her shoes, please don't make an opinion. What transpired in this home will never be forgotten for those involved and where there. As a Mother of a son that could and has made these trespasses, we all have made many mistakes and can not even compare with how difficult it is to be the Mother' and have to deal with this kind of confrontation with a son or daughter. She was torn and didn't have time to think of "what am I suppose to do". She is his Mother and would always hope he wouldn't come there to harm her or others, regardless of who else was in the house. Would you fill differently if she had been protecting children? Her son is 29, why should she not be able to respect her privacy? How long is a Mother to be blamed for her children's inability to cope on their own. There must be a reason why someone came up with the phase, you can pick your friends, but not your family, you think?
Mayberry, NC doesn't even exist and neither did Mrs. Cleaver, so why are we still so quick to think we all live in the days when bad things never happen to good people? I hope not to offend anyone, but the things that our children do are not and should not always be blamed on their parents. Why didn't they, shouldn't they have, I would haven't ever, etc. What is your shoe size and have you ever had to fill it? The young man forced his way into the home, knowing his Mother what his Mother wouldn't do, and took it upon himself to create his own demise. I doubt that he even feels remorse for what he put his Mother through, and will do it again. Rehab? He has probably been there several times and still blames his Mother. I don't know any of the facts other than what I have read, but I know that this young man has destroyed many lives and doesn't even know it or cares about anyone but himself. I wish them all the best to get through this, but know that it will never be forgotten for any of them. William deserves no satisfaction that his injury was caused by another, but that of himself.

Fourth of July fireworks

So proud as the founder of Veteran's day, why are we not equally proud of our independence? I am not rather fond of all the fireworks that go off in my neighborhood, but if anyone wishes to truly celebrate all of our freedom, least am I to say it isn't important. Shame on the commissioners to to not budget for the activity, but spend my tax money on statue and arches on the fair grounds that I see as very silly and without any merit of what the city has to offer for such really
"I don't even know what it is" displays as art. It is a waste of tax dollars and I wish the
"fair grounds" would go to a county location rather than an industrial opportunity for growth to the city. Hello. How many times a year do you even think about the fair ground or what it is costing us to set with a few functions a year at what expense?

Smoking ban

Hey Teresa you look so happy on the front page photo for your mission to make us all smoke free. Why is this so important to you and why did you choose this as your crusade rather then abused children, education, loss of employment, the economy of parents looking to how to support their families, or obesity? I think I read that you would like to run for the city commissioner, but if this is the best cause you can come up with don't expect me to vote for you, as all of the above are more important to me than your "clean air campaign" that only the fortunate people as yourself do not live on a day to day basis .Health has always been an issue for myself, but health insurance and prescriptions are the real concern. Your 5 seconds of fame does not change anything for anyone who shares your goals. I am of the work force over the age of 60 that do not need you to be the voice of how to better our lives, nor our children. I seriously recommend that you move to another city that appreciates your gracious comments of all the smokers that have a need for you to "clean their air" rather than providing for their children I challenge you to ask any smoker if they would purchase tabbaco before food for their children. You run your household as you see fit, but do not try to run mine by assuming you are the only right person in Emporia. I think you went over the line. Have a good day. Regards.

Group says info lacking on resettlement

Why is Tyson's being allowed to benefit their company by bringing them here without the consideration of the effects to our community. We do not and never have had any visions of Emporia becoming a refugee camp. Citizens of Emporia had better speak up before Tyson brings in anymore for us to support, house and deal with. This isn't about discrimination or prejudice, it's a matter of who is going to fund them after all of that promised grant money is used up? Tax payers? I would like to see a response from Tyson as to how much are they willing to pay to provide for them?
