create,
Your job description would sound far more important if you used words like "Liaison, Facilitator, and Professional"
Example: I was the liaison, facilitator to the yearbook publishing division.
I was the instructor professional in charge of multi-year grade levels.
I was the EXECUTIVE director of the annual school play.
Using words like that could have raised your pay ;>)

goodoleboy,
I have to admit that I was laughing pretty hard also. Truth be told, I could tell that you might have had a couple, because of the nature of most of your posts. I think that goodjoss may have also hit happy hour pretty hard that night also. I have done it, and before the election it will probably happen again from someone, no biggie.

WOW, look at the time, I need to go do one of my other non-taxpayer paid jobs.---------- Collecting and paying sales and liquor taxes for the state of Kansas. Or would that just fall under my job title of small business owner?

goodjoss,
You say that "The PRIDE program coordinates with local *volunteers*... there's your "grassroots".
So I went back to the website and clicked on "Community Success Stories" to check on the volunteerism.

What does Extension do?
goodjoss,
Please take this in the friendly way it is given?
As a grouchy poster who is well known for his grouchy opinions, I myself have done this and regreted it later.
Do not post late in the evening and after you've been drinking.

goodjoss,
Good morning. I am sorry I couldn't respond earlier, I was sleeping because I had been out getting signatures on the petition, without getting paid. No thanks needed, (that is grassroots and volunteerism).
Yes I do know how the public sector works at a university, and it sometimes pi$$es me off. Let's not forget the "public sector" works for all of us as they are taxpayer funded.
As far as this article and this class goes, you won't find me complaining about it at all. FHTC, the Kansas Small Business Development Center at Emporia State University, and Emporia Main Street have done and continue to do a great job.
As far as I can determine KSU has nothing to do with the local course,(which is available state wide), so why the duplication of services from them?
Please do not tell me that just because someone has several job titles or descriptions, that they are doing three jobs.
Every one of the job titles you listed for Mr.Kahl are just descriptions of his one job. Well, maybe they are not in the public sector, but they would be in the private sector.
It is the duplication of programs and services, and the proliferation of taxpayer paid advisors and facilitators that I object to.
Your words:
"You gotta pay somebody - or else all you get is a whole bunch of hot air coming from grouchy people sitting at keyboards."
My question:
Who is being paid for organizing the petition drive?
Are there paid positions in our local :
Lyons club?
Optimist club?
Jaycees?
Many other volunteer orgs?
As long as Run4Fun keeps posting the links for k-state extension service programs, I will continue to try to show an alternative "private sector" or duplicate governmental sector viewpoint.
I think what makes me "grouchy" is when someone tells me they are proud to do their "fair share" and they are happy that their tax dollars go to pay for various programs.
I'm happy that I can pay taxes, (it means I'm making money), and don't mind paying my taxes for government operations, the absolute needed ones.
Every other "program" should be my choice on if I support it or not.
I DO SUPPORT THIS CLASS !

Lyon County Commission seeks amenities for Bowyer building
jafo, I think we all do it sometimes. We hear something and take it as face value. I know I got pretty upset when I read it. No harm done, no lynching occured.

Keep them coming, I'm compiling a list off all these important partners to send the governor and every representative and state senator. They may get some ideas on more budget cuts.

Run4Fun,
Yes the program in the article is great for budding business owners.
Your link to the Kansas pride program has me wondering about a couple of things.
Right off the bat, the web site states the following:
The Kansas PRIDE program is a volunteer, grassroots effort to improve the quality of life in local communities."
Volunteer? Grassroots?
So I checked the partners that were listed:
Jamie Menon (kstate) $28,308.80 year
Trudy Rice (Kstate) $52,999.96 year
Dan Kahl (Kstate) $64,122.00 year
total $145,430.76 year
That is NOT volunteer or grass roots!
It is also a little much for duplicatons of services already provded for by the Commerce department and our local agencies, isn't it?

What does Extension do?
Run4Fun,
Over the last few weeks I have talked to many about this petition drive and the extension office. People who have served on the extension board and other boards and committees. Fair board members and others.
Many of them are huge extension backers. NOT ONE of them are for this distrct issue. There were many issues these people were concerned about, taxing was not the only one.
After Feb. 24th, we may have several months to not only discuss the extension issue, but issues from all of the government entities that effect us all.
I am sure that you, (like me) are retired or self employed and have plenty of time to debate the issues. I know you would not be debating this issue on these forums while you are at work for somone.
