Schools file lawsuit against the state

Maybe, just maybe,l if the schools didn't spend over a million dollars on a turf field they could live within the current funding formula. But no... they have to have the newest and greatest toys that do not have an effect on core education system.

Park targeted for future expansion

I think Zippy needs to check his numbers again. The park is valued at almost $52,000 and has 4.7 acres. Do the math and it comes out to over $16,000 for the 1.5 acres they want to buy. Maybe this is why the city is in such a financial mess. They can't do simple math and are losing over $10,000 on this deal.

What they are really saying is... lets spend more tax dollars. What is going to happen everytime the river floods? Just because you have access to tax dollars doesn't mean you have to waste it.

SOS requests $15K for budget

"Briggs said Lyon County taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for something that is coming from the City of Emporia."

When did Emporia move out of Lyon County? I get two bills every year from Lyon County telling me to pay my property taxes. I guess next time I will return it to them and tell them that Emporia is no longer in Lyon County.

It is amazing how out of touch these people are.

This all comes down to bad people do bad things. You can try to justify it however you want but it is only human nature for some people to try and cheat whenever they can.

Funding cuts hurt taxpayers

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks the school district is not acting responsibly with OUR tax money. Unfortunately it has been going on so long that the school now feels that we owe them something. Wrong they are govt employees so they work for us. When times get tough they should remove the fluff from the budget and provide the essential services. Forget about the turf and worry about the textbooks.
