Folks, please don't fret yourselves into a frenzy about being told not to celebrate your countries independence with a few fireworks. You don't always have to do as you are told to to do. I sure hope no one tells you to go walk off the roof. If you just celebrate in your driveway in a safe and sane manner, as you know is the right thing to do, there will be no problems. If someone is telling you to do something stupid, don’t listen, and for sure don't follow their instructions. If you think that this is stupid to just shoot them off, then don't listen, and don't shoot them off. Relax; your stomach can only do so much acid before ulcers set in.

I still plan on shooting fireworks all day and into the night!!! In my own driveway. It's just my way of celebrating the independence of my country. If you'd like to celebrate by trying to keep me from shooting them off then let that be your way. I though about getting the neighbors together and decorating our bicycles but a lot of them are elderly and don't have bicycles, so that's out. When I mentioned having a neighborhood parade to them they just laughed. For the most part they do still love the pop of firecrackers, the flash of fountains and the bursting of aerial bombs, so I aim to please.

I am looking forward to the government taking from all of the rich people and giving it to deserving poor people like me. I realize that I haven’t tried very hard but it is my birthright to receive all of the benefits of this Great Society. I think our Democrats will have a, “not one person left behind" policy in place within a short time after power is turned over to them. I feel sorry for all of those that will be getting ripped off but I thank them for the handout. As it has been said by one of the founders of our great party, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his own needs". We will all be one, under a new government, where folks like me will be just as rewarded, as folks who really put out some effort to get ahead. We will all receive equal rewards from our government. What a great day for America lies just ahead. I knew that I had equal rights to other folks but I truly never thought I would live to see the time that I would get an equal share of the riches of America. It is not how you live your life that counts, but rather that you have a life to count. Hopefully the spoils of the current dreadful leaders will be divided equally among all of us when we thrust our party into the winning column, come next November. Milk and Honey time is within our reach! And as for all of you Capitalists friends out there, keep up the good work. If you have the ability to produce, the rest of us who don’t, are counting on you to contribute heavily into our Nations coffers. We sure don’t want anything to happen to us like it did in the old USSR. The farmers there finally came to believe that they weren’t getting what they considered "just rewards" for their efforts, and they quit producing, and our brothers and sisters there nearly starved. CHANGE is the issue!!!

I think I'm going to go right on ahead and shoot some great fireworks off in my own driveway despite the liberal left and their efforts to make the 4th of July celebrations only history. Look up!!

Well you can count me in on shooting some fireworks off in my driveway. I like to do the sky rockets and aerial bombs. Keep your eyes wide!!!

I don't know just why the new proposed law should be limited to speeding tickets. Why not make it on all tickets. Running stop signs/lights, failing to yield the right of way, over parking, DWI, jaywalking, domestic violence and many other crimes take up police time, effort, and gasoline to patrol, within the city. These crimes need not be accepted in any lesser light than speeding. Making the criminals pay for the increased costs in maintaining a safe society should be fair play and if they don’t like it then they should not do the crime.

I wonder what kind of work is going on in the area that would require many migrant workers to achieve. I also wonder if it has a long enough season to warrant teaching the migrants children, "English as a second language", regardless of where the money comes from. I don't recall any type of fruit or berry that is picked locally that would require migrant workers. The wheat harvest is coming soon and there will be migrant workers going through the area to get that harvest in, but I doubt if the children of those migrant workers will be with them. They could be.... I might be wrong about that. I don't think the wheat harvest crews are from Mexico or Central America, however. I think wheat harvest crews kids won't require English as a second language. Then there are the roofers who have been in the area for several months following storm damage to the roofs of Emporia. Perhaps these are the migrants that this article and this program pose to help the offspring of. This work should be getting pared down to where they will be moving on to other cities roofs. Then there is the road construction work that may use migrant workers. The job on the west side of town keeps going on and on. Back to my wondering; I wonder if there is a similar program in effect to wile away the summer hours of the children of permanent citizens of Emporia. I mean like, day long activities that include breakfast, lunch and the learning of an alternant language…. maybe a trip or two out of town to see a play or something.

Gosh, all of this hub hub about mowing your lawns. Have you ever thought about just killing it so nothing at all grows there in your yard? Salt is cheap. I bet it would do a number on that nasty old grass that gets over a foot tall. Surely it would at least stun it so that it would stay under 12 inches. Personally I think that grass that is 11 inches tall is kind of ugly too. I think no grass would look better than 11-inch tall grass, but they don't ask me when they make those silly ole grass height rules. And no grass would keep the vandals back away from spray-painting your house on rainy days too. The problem probably is that the City might require there to be grass in your yard. I don't know.

Position yourself a safe distance from combustibles. Light the match. Put lighted end of match just under the end of the firework fuse and hold there until the sizzling of the burning fuse starts. Step back a safe distance and watch the firework explode/flash/smoke etc. Smile, and clap hands together. Remember all of those who have fought dearly (some have died), for your right to do it. It’s a pretty easy thing to do. Honor those brave souls on this 4th of July, just do it!!!
On It doesn’t have to be a fizzle
