I agree with everyone else. A classy move, Clint. I am now a Clint Bowyer fan! Go Hamburger Helper and Cheerios!

JohnDoe, you are spot-on with your statement: KU and KSU are mad because they aren't churning a profit.

The University of Kansas will never reach top-50 with its current 91.8 % acceptance rate (higher than KSU or WSU). And the governor wants KU to be a top-50? KU belongs where it is in the US News and World Report ratings. But, KU has a good basketball team; and that's what really matters here in the heartland.

Until the Kansas legislature stops slashing the throats of state universities (especially the regionals like Emporia State that don't have multi-million-dollar grants like KU and KSU), Kansas will NEVER have a top-50 university. Kansas universities will be lucky to be in the top-100, if things keep going like they are now. Wake-up citizens of Kansas, the great exodus of university faculty and top-notch students to other states will soon be upon us.

Hey Lyon County State Bank, you lost the bid. Perhaps if you had been more competitive with it, you would not have needed to file this protest? I admit, that I don't know all the details, but this sounds like a case of being a poor loser to me.

I applaud your article, Ashley. I want to also point out to you and your readers that women in Congo aren't the only victims of rape. Men and young boys are also victimized - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/05/world/...

Shell Food Mart - you reap what you sow!
On Sept. 11, 2001, I was unfortunately out of gas and needed a fill. I went to the Shell on Eaglecrest, only to find that they had quadrupled (or more) their asking price for gas - a.k.a. price gouging. Needing fuel, I paid it. A few days later, I returned and politely asked to speak to the manager. The manager refused to come out and hid in the office in the back. From that day on, I never spent another nickle at that Shell. Maybe some of the poorly-run businesses in Emporia are learning a lesson about customer service and reasonable pricing during these hard economic times?

At only about $25 for a 30-second radio spot, very little - considering that the average hospital stay costs $17,734.

Robert,
Don't try to make a rational argument based on empirical research. It's been tried. They will deny it, because the research wasn't conducted IN Emporia. Everyone knows, we live in Emporia; in a vacuum where the laws of the universe don't apply.
